Guest guest
I just love this thread. We have been training dogs for 25 years. Well, they are Maltese, TTs, and Lhasas, so it isn't the same as some of you guys. Not as serious, I guess, although we did manage to get two C.D. titles. I do not agree with Cesar Milan's methods for the most part. Love clicker training and other positive reinforcement methods. With Lhasas, you mostly have to outsmart them, which is not easy. They are very manipulative! I would love to have a service dog someday. I love my friend's service dog -- a yellow lab. I have talked about getting a parti-poodle. Can't be shown in AKC shows but I don't care. I need someone to help me pick things up, etc. I think a Portuguese Water Dog would be good too. I am currently writing my third dog book and there will be a chapter on training. So I am very open to any opinions you have on training a well-behaved dog. For any of us who need a dog who will walk with us, and not pull us, maybe this can be helpful to all of us with dogs. Carolyn, what breed(s) do you have? > Carolyn wrote: > I have three dogs, two are service dogs and were trained using clickers. It's a really positive training method but my dogs go out in public with me everywhere and do things for me like picking up stuff I drop. THey are really great but it took some work to get them that way.
