Guest guest
I haven't had it for several years. Can't remember why I stopped, probably the horrible taste. I used to buy it powdered in a large can (like a coffee can) from the HFS and then I would mix it in juice to take it. It needs something to cover up the taste. Guest guest
I took it daily for decades, usually in pineapple juice, with vit C powder also. My first experience was with apple juice, but I don't like that now. My daughter liked to drink it in milk. But I think the flavor combines well with savory foods such as soy sauce and garlic. Gretchen Brewer's Yeast OK, how do you guys eat Brewer's yeast?

Guest guest
Max, I usually use the Nutritional Yeast from KAL. It comes in large boxes (HFS or online). It tastes lots better than brewer's, which I find inedible, LOL You can sprinkle it on almost anything: salads, gravy.., I even sometimes use it on buttered " zekes " toast, yummy to me. Try it, you might like it, Emmi

Guest guest
I know I'm strange, but I like to eat it off the spoon - not mixed in with anything. I can't take ruining good juice just so I can get the yeast. For me the yeast buds are the best. Reminds me I need to go get some, I've been out for a while now. Guest guest
> I haven't had it for several years. Can't remember why I stopped, probably > the horrible taste. It does have an awful taste, but I also discovered that one can get used to it SLOWLY :-)) And later one can actually like it! I used to add it to my son's formula when he was an infant and he'd have two tablespoons per cup with no sweetener or other flavour and loved it! [He is so healthy he doesn't know how to get sick! It's disgusting.] My approach: I make a sort of egg nog thing, with about three eggs, and some boiling water (used to use powdered milk before O days), and something to sweeten it and optionally some spices. You can make it cold if you prefer but I like it the hot way. (No cooking, just add water the temp you prefer.) It's a great breakfast-on-the-run thing or a meal-before-major-cycle event thing. How much water to add is an individual taste thing, I start with making a total of 1.5 cups liquid. To this initially add (whisk in) 1/4 teaspoon of brewer's yeast (by the way this is NOT the same as baker's yeast as used in bread, do not use that!) Use " food yeast " or " nutritional yeast " or brewer's yeast " . Once you have your ratios where you like them you can start experimenting with less sweetener and more yeast. I now can drink 1.5 cups that includes 3 eggs, no sweetening and 2 heaped teaspoons of brewer's yeast. But it took a long time to gradually get there. I upped by 1/4 teaspoon about once a month. > I used to buy it powdered in a large can (like a coffee > can) from the HFS Here you can get it in bulk from Fred Meyer grocery section, or in jars at the HF store. Guest guest
Irene I seem to have all sorts of supplements. Ihave aquired them from diff health food stores and diff reccomendations to the point of being confused on what to take when or even why. Here is a list of what I have: Total EFA (omega 3,6,9) directions take3 soft gels daily with a meal. Bladderwrack(take 1-3 per day) Candidase by enzymedica for yeast overgrowth (it just says serving size 2 capsules) L-Glutamine Powder Catechol for type 0 Multi Vitamin my main complaints are extreme fatique, sensitivity (emotional), cravings for junk, EXTREME dry skin(cracked heels, dry hands) and just plain old lousy. Should I take all of this? Irene de Villiers <furryboots@...> wrote: danielle locke wrote: > what are the benefits of brewers yeast? what exactly is it? Guest guest
> > le, It seems to me like you're coming from a deep dark place. My suggestion is to concentrate on what you eat and do exercise. So, eat animal protein & leafy green veges as much as you can. Do exercise, even if it is only walking, but do exercise. Sooner or later your body will adjust to all the good things that you are doing. Once you've got your protein intake just right, you'll start to lose your cravings for junk. The fatigue will go away as your body thrives on all the good things. Instead of the fatigue, you will be jumping out of your skin. The dry skin will also go. But you need to just eat the good stuff and experiment so that it is enjoyable for you. Out of the supplements, you mention I would continue with the bladderwrack. It helps fight off the effects of bad lectins that we may eat. I can't comment on the others. And don't get disheartened. It has taken me 2 years on BTD to work out a diet and exercise regimen that works for me. It's different for everyone but the basics are the same. Drop wheat and thrive on meat & veges. Cheers,
Guest guest
Back in the '40's my mother used to give me the bakers yeast in a square cube. That was live yeast in a moist but not wet form, and it didn't give me a bellyache. Of couse now there is fast drying the other kind isn't around any more. Guest guest
le What is in the Candidase? The other stuff sounds fine, but diet is most important. ITrace minerals could also be very beneficial for you. I have had good reports back about cracked skin and sugar cravings improving. Eventually you may need a liver/gall bladder cleanse. Guest guest
That looks like a protein and fiber digestive enzyme. Helpful most anytime but I think you need something more for killing the yeast and clearing it. I would suggest an Anti-candida formula from a good company. Some Vit C and/or Grapeseed extract for antioxidant clearing. Lots of good water sipped on throughout the day. Also some good acidophilus to replace the good bacteria, I consider essential. Usually best taken on an empty stomach. Trace Minerals are a liquid mineral formula with around 80 something of the minerals we ned only minut(sp) amounts of. A good health food store should have them. Either Colloidal or Ionic. Should be around $20 for 32 oz. Don't get any with a bunch of other good sounding stuff in it. Don't start with the full recommended dose and take with a meal not on an empty stomach. Guest guest
There is a paler yellowish flaky kind that is delicious that health food stores get in bulk. I don't know the source, they sell it as nutritional yeast or brewer's yeast as if they were interchangable. We like that one on bagels and popcorn and some other things as well. The kids will eat a bowl of it mixed into a paste with Bragg's Liquid Aminos as if it's candy. We ran out the same time as the store so I got some powder that was in a can called Nutritional Yeast and the stuff was horrible tasting. It was a darker brown and a fine powder. NOW sells nutritional yeast tablets that are chewable and the kids and pets love them - the cat will even do tricks for them and is fanatical about getting his two yeast pellets at least once a day. He'll start causing problems until we give in and give them to him - he's training us! I've been wondering about growing some yeast as food - the s. boulardii says you can grow it. Maybe it would be even better if we cultured it in some flour/water mix and let it go awhile then ate it - more active yeast organisms plus the B vitamins, etc. that it makes. Or putting it in sweet juice to make a fizzy pop. Hmmm... Gotta go try that one now! > > Go to www.vitacost.com > Check out their description of Labs Brewer's yeast. This is my favorite version.
