Sorry for the delay. I was in your shoes. I do think it was hormonal. Basically I turned into a fat-storing-around-the-middle machine. What turned it around for me was following Kwasniewski-style low carb. The idea of Kwasniewski is you get enough protein but no more, to give your liver and adrenals a break. You get enough carb to stay out of hard ketosis, keep your carb-burning enzymes, but little enough to force the production of fat burning. And you have fat as your main macronutrient as it is hormonally easy on the bod. Before, I always had plenty of protein. I now think it was too much and was stimulating the cortisol-adrenal-insulin cascade. And I didn't always have enough carbs in the form of simple starches. I would go from nothing, to greens, to fruit. I now think that just overstimulated gluconeogensis. And I way didn't get enough saturated fat. I now think that got me stuck still too much in sugar-burning, what with gluconeogenesis and the cortisol situation. And I had too much fight-or-flight exercise, and not enough easy-does-it, all-day-like-the-Amish exercise. Hard, short, intense. Stimulating cortisol, adrenals, and not primarily fat burning (where did I think the glucose was coming from?) Anyhoo, I just love the results and feeling from this new protocol. It's working too but not as fast as before. Oh and I sleep 9+ hours a night. Like in " Lights Out. " Just some ideas. Connie
Guest guest
Have you had your thyroid checked? -PattyT --- In , " christiekeith " <christiekeith@...> wrote: > > Does anyone have any insight or suggestions for me on any of this? Guest guest
Hi, I would bet the farm you are hypothyroid. It really hits hard around menopause time. My favorite people on this subject are Ray Peat and Lee. They happen to be good friends with each other, I read everything of Ray Peat's and consult with Lee. www.raypeat.com www.litalee.com Book to read: Hypothyroid: The Unsuspecting Illness by Broda O . MD. He has a chapter on weight loss with diet. Lee has a lot to say about diet on her website. Both Peat and Lee do telephone consults but is an enzyme therapist. I would consult with her because you probably would benefit from enzymes. If she doesn't know something she asks Peat. They talk daily. Extreme exercise makes a person hypothyroid due to the lactic acid. http://members.westnet.com.au/pkolb/peat_ind.htm Menopause sucks. Guest guest
Amount of carbs according to JK's ratio: protein 58 g +/- 6 carb 30 g +/- 10 fat 75-100 g (JK recommends 116 g for me - hard to get that much) Split over 3 equal sized meals. I mostly do root vegetables. Idaho potatoes, sweet potatoes, parsnips, Daikon radish, rutabaga. Make a big mash and reheat it. I count the carbs in avocados and nuts. I would count the carbs in other veggies if I had them much. Sometimes I have leafy greens. I OD'd on asparagus and broccoli and am avoiding them for the time being. I also have grains once in a while, 2-3 meals a week. Nairn oat cakes " Fine " has nothing but oats, palm oil, and salt I think. Or I might make a Dutch baby pancake out of " gasp! " white flour soaked overnight in buttermilk. wow is that good. But generally the soaking grains is more trouble than the root veggies, for me. Sometimes I have lentil sprouts. I really like em with butter but I have to start 3-4 days early! (can you see the impulsive lazy cook pattern?)
