Guest guest
We had a thread about this awhile back and it was concluded, as I recall, that kelp had too much arsenic unless you ordered from companies that tested for such things. A member of the Brix group is using kelp in his harden and as a supplement and came up with this Pub Med article saying it wasn't so toxic. Does anyone have better scientific evidence about arsenic in kelp: good or bad? Here's what he wrote: ======================================================= I had written: > kelp is full of arsenic unless you order on line at a sea vegetable > place Don't have a llink He replied: That danger is apparently overblown - http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=2137100 " Although the report has several methodologic shortcomings, the most serious flaw is the authors' failure to recognize that the arsenic most commonly found in seaweed and seafood products is relatively nontoxic. " I've used kelp right along in the garden, and as a supplement. It's high in potassium, so I've been omitting it lately since I have a potassium overload due to too much compost. The trace minerals are very valuable. I'm sure it has contributed to the much improved tilth of my garden soil, which was heavy clay. I'm anticipating higher brix levels this season - though not just because of the kelp. Kris
