Guest guest
What kind of doctor's office puts up a sign saying they don't deal with an entire (and essential) part of medicine? It may still be worth discussing the topic with him. What's the worst he can do? nothing He might know a doctor who does prescribe them or he might make an exception to his rule (just until you can get a pain doctor). I read somewhere that in AZ there are only 13 registered pain doctors that meet the guidlines inthat new law. I believe that I also read that there are over 100,000 pain patients in AZ (as of the time that article was written, pretty recently) 100,000 patients/13 docs= 7692.31 patients/pain doctor WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!? Best of luck and keep me up to date Steve M in PA I was telling the doctor, what about cancer people that are children and suffering and he had nothing to say, what ever!! Guest guest
My primary care doctor would not even take me as a patient unless I was seeing a pain management doctor for my pain. This is the new trend in the United States of America. The land of the Free. Now all of this is very difficult for me because of I have chronic pain. The pain is so bad I sometimes wonder if IÕll make it through the night. Anyway, I treat them well because the doctors want to think that they are helping. If they think you are not benefitting from their care, you might be dropped. Be so careful. In California, it is unthinkable for an internist or a GP to prescribe opiods. ThatÕs just the way it is. We probably get better meds from someone trained to work with pain. Good luck and happy holidays. Suzanne
Guest guest
so I have been calling the doctors office cause one lady that I was talking to on the phone screwed up and said she would ask the doctor for a temporary script just until I see the doctor. I said, what in the world am I going to do if i run out? this is too dangerous and on and on. so now they called me back and told me to go get my blood work done and supposedly he would do it. I have a hard time trusting but I need to do the blood work any way so I will but damn it I have to fast and i hate doing that. Friday I go for blood and I PRAY they get the results next week and he gives me my meds. he put notes in saying that he put a rush on my referral for the pain doctor. my insurance really isn't any help at all, but I guess it all depends who picks up the phone cause some have been helpful. sabrina in az
Guest guest
Jennete, All, You are SO RIGHT and it is common, that the Doctor does not have the responsiblity to treat you but to refer you to a pain management doctor that does. Most primary care doctors and internal medicine also refer you to gynocologists, urologists, rheumotologists, gastroenterologists, allergists and specialists as that is protocol even though they have been trained enough in those areas to treat you. So, , your neurologist and all other specialists are the same as pain management Doctors and they are set up to deal with the auditing. I have found a note stating how the Doctor has helped you is appreciated is so welcome. My pain doctor is now doing laser and I saw how great her nurse looked and said " Boy, I would like that " She said " Oh, Bennie, I didn't think you were concerned with Beauty ! " We both laughed as that is not really what she meant and she took me back and gave me free laser work on my dark spots and cracked spots in the corner of my mouths. I told her I used to be a model and she wants to see my pictures and I promised : ) She is wonderful and treats me like I am human. She states " Do you remember when I first saw you and I asked how are you walking because your hip muscles were so tight ! " I now can bend over and she is great. I am glad that she treats me like a human being. Bennie
Guest guest
I never thought of it like that. But, now that you say it, my pain doctors are better than my internist, neurologist and even the orthopedist. It takes some tweaking to get the right combo of meds that work. Thanks for your perspective. Ellen
