ICRW's Health and Development Group seeks a Group Director to maintain and expand a strategic and coherent program of work in the area of Health and Development that advances ICRW's mission and vision. This program of work currently comprises sexual and reproductive health with a focus on HIV and AIDS, gender-based violence, maternal health and nutrition. This position is based in ICRW's New Delhi, India office and requires extensive international travel to countries where ICRW is implementing projects. Primary Duties: Serves as technical lead on the current research portfolio which includes major studies on trafficking and sex work, the socio- economic drivers of sex work and risk reduction among sex workers and other marginalized populations, the impact of the systematic integration of gender and sexuality into maternal health interventions, the role of property and inheritance rights in mitigating the impact of HIV and AIDS, and the costs of violence. Develops the H & D technical area in the Asia office. Works with group members to create a vision for a coherent program that aligns with the overall H & D agenda globally; coordinates with the Regional Director for the Asia office to ensure alignment with regional office strategy; coordinates with H & D VP and team directors to ensure alignment with broader H & D agenda. Implements that vision and agenda at the regional office; provides support for research conceptualization, design and implementation. Develops funding strategies to finance the portfolio's development. Works closely with the Regional Director, Asia Office and Vice President H & D to identify potential funding sources. Assures quality of all funding proposals for the H & D technical area in the Asia office. Provides project management leadership and support for projects within the H & D technical area in Asia , overseeing all areas, including budget and planning, program and research design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, management of partner relations, and ensuring high quality deliverables on projects within the group. Constructively guides, motivates and mentors subordinate staff in support of ICRW's strategic goals. Serves as technical expert to peers, providing high level guidance, support and leadership to other researchers/professionals. Undertakes regional and global research within the H & D technical area and contributes to both ICRW's work and the field in own areas of expertise. Represents the H & D technical area in Asia office management team. Participates in regional office strategic planning as well as the development and implementation of policies, practices and procedures. Participates in institutional management teams as necessary. Maintains professional expertise and recognition outside of ICRW by maintaining professional networks, reviewing for journals, publishing, and speaking engagements and presentations. Authors articles and represents ICRW at technical conferences and in the media; serves on coalitions and builds advocacy Required Education, Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Education: Ph.D. in Sociology, Demography, Public Health or a related discipline. Experience: Minimum 8 years of post-doctoral experience conducting research in developing countries, especially in Asia . Skills: Established reputation for research excellence in chosen field. Recognized by the development community as an expert on gender and development issues. Established research record through publications in peer-reviewed journals and other publications. Demonstrated ability to translate research findings into policy and/or programming. Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capabilities to lead a group of research and program staff with diverse skills. Ability to create a shared vision for the group and its role in advancing the institution's vision and mission. Strong networking and negotiation abilities and demonstrated capability for securing funding from foundations, government, and bilateral sources. Sound understanding of Asian and global contexts, and ability to link ICRW's H & D work in Asia to ICRW's broader H & D agenda. Ability to relate Asia-based work to international contexts. Demonstrated strategic thinking skills and ability to advance ICRW's outreach goals in national, regional and international areas through publications, networks, and communication with political leaders, policy-makers, donors and implementers of development programs. Demonstrated successful project and people management skills along with maturity, diplomacy, and independence to work effectively with in-country and global partners, donors, and project staff. Ability and willingness to assume high-visibility institutional roles such as committee participation and work with others across the organization, especially in fostering strong working relationships between the Asia office and headquarters. Must possess outstanding written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated expertise in health and development programming, with experience working on issues relating to trafficking and sex work highly desirable.
