My husband just got out of the military and after Tricare footed the bill for all of my care no one else will touch me or my condition except a state run program that is designed for people with preexisting conditions, this program was created under the new health care reform. Each state is in charge of running these programs so it may be possible it was rolled into a new program. HTH! Cherese, I did not know that this was your situation. Tricare should have given you a statement of insurability even if you had pre existing condition as they did me and you had been insured. Please apply for disability and Tricare does have a program called " Continuing Benefits Program " underwritten by Humana. It has high benefits just like the state insurance pool programs I had to pay for them for my son and the the NEW health program left us OUT when the program went in effect and they had to go back and add military in. You are right and I helped a lady get her state program under Medicaid, she didn't have to pay, as she had " medical necessity " and I typed up the justifications. Some of the programs you speak about are called Adult Chip programs as Steve was speaking about. This website http://www.healthinsurance.org/risk_pools/ has the information and you can click on your state. The program had low sign up because of premiums so this article states: he Department of Health and Human Services has announced that it will lower premiums for temporary high-risk pools in 18 states and ease eligibility standards in 23 states and the District or Columbia to make expand enrollment in the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP) that was created by last year's Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Premiums will be lowered by up to 40 percent in 18 states where the PCIP is administered by the federal government to bring the premiums closer to the rates in each state's individual health insurance market. Find out how the changes to PCIP premiums affect each of the 18 states. At the same time, the HHS will ease PCIP eligibility requirements for those states and five others – plus the District of Columbia. Starting July 1, 2011 applicants will no longer have to wait for their carrier to provide a letter denying them coverage. Also, those applying for PCIP coverage will only have to provide a letter from their medical provider, stating that the applicant has had a medical condition, disability or illness. So Cherese, make sure that you are lowered program and e-mail me privately, I will give you the justification for medical necessity and some info, I need to know something about your military length etc. Would love to help you get this free if you are not getting it free. I couldn't believe that Express Script dropped Walgreens and the military is going up to five dollars for generic and ten dollars for brand and off formulary over twenty dollars. They have gone up ten dollars but the Tricare Insurance was a lifesaver. When I became disabled I had to pay for Medicare even though we were under family plan with Tricare, got that taken care off and I have Tricare for Life as Secondary. E-mail me any time. Every state has a Department of Human and Health Services to check for services available. Bennie (What state are you in ?)
