Kaylene, My previous pain management Doctor had this compounded along with other combinations to augment pain medications. One combination had flexaril, Motrin, and others. I was given a prescription. He had three combinations, one for muscle cramps, one for nerve pain and another. Below is a website that explains compound pain creams and the uses: ttp://www.hoyespharmacy.com/page/view/practitioners/56-ultraflex-pain-cream-info\ rmation.html Below is an example of a compound that this woman used for her burning and stabbing pain. DPH - diphhydramine (antihistimine - said it was for burning/stabbing pain KT - ketamine (pain med) ACT - acetaminophen AMT - amitriptyline Here is an example of what is in the anti inflammatory creams : He also said there is a small amt. of ketoprofen in it which is similar to ibuprofen. This is also some prescriptions that they compound: Examples of compounded medications All formulations are customized per prescription to meet the unique needs of each patient. Please call us to discuss the dosage form, medication, and strength which are most appropriate for your patient. • Ketoprofen topical or transdermal gel • Ketamine transdermal gel • Ketamine/Ketoprofen/Gabapentin transdermal gel • Lidocaine/Prilocaine topical gel • Triple-Anesthetic gel – benzocaine/lidocaine/tetracaine (“BLT”) • Gabapentin/Clonidine in PLO (Pluronic Lecithin Organogel) • Piroxicam tablet triturates • Ibuprofen suppositories • Ketoprofen/Cyclobenzaprine topical gel The compound pharmacy I used had print outs and knew combinations for different kinds of pain cream so if your physician does not do this you might call the compound pharmacy and find out what medications they dispense. My compound creams were covered by my insurance, I did have to wait a couple days to pick up my prescription. CVS, Walgreen and other pharmacies will have at least on compound location so I was able to keep all my prescriptions at Walgreen. I cannot say that they helped along with lidocane patches but I know they did not cause me any other pain. This was my experience with compound pain creams.
