Guest guest
I need advice/recommendations from individuals knowledgeable of the resources available to families in Indiana. My cousin, age 43, had a massive brain stem stroke late last week. He is responsive, but paralysed from his neck down. Roy is now trached, ventilator dependent, gtube fed...the list goes on. Roy was the sole support of his family (wife, two young children). The family has to make many decisions quickly with very little guidance and no idea what services may be available to them. Any suggestions as to whom they should contact for assistance, guidance, support would be appreciated. Thank you. Joanne Kocourek The University of Chicago jskocour@... Guest guest
I would start with the social worker at the hospital where he is being treated. They have a wealth of knowledge regarding resources, care, etc... It sounds like he is in the ICU and they usually have a social worker assigned to that unit because of all the needs associated with a critical illness. Hope this helps.
