Guest guest
Can't help you with a doctor but have you tried Motherwort Tincture? Belinda > > Hi folks, I am a lurker. And need some advice. Does anyone on this group know of a good source of info on a more natural approach to easeing menopause symptoms? I have been at this for several years and am at the breaking point. I am allergic to soy. Have tried every combo of herbs, and really good topical creams. Need more help. How do I find a good Dr with a more natural approach? Guest guest
I hope this isn't blasphemy, but I LOVE Suzanne Somers new book, BREAKTHROUGH! She talks about menopause in great length. It is actually just her interviewing several doctors (natural leaning doctors). My library had it even though I had to wait it was worth it. Guest guest
I'm no expert on menopause (I'm only 28), but I've come to understand that the symptoms related to menopause are related in large part to adrenal fatigue and the " pregnenolone steal " that happens as a result. Adrenal fatigue is caused by any prolonged stress response (emotional, physical, mental, you name it). Are you familiar with Dr. Janet Lang's work? She's a brilliant endocrinologist who speaks at the WAPF conferences. More info for you at her website: http://www.restorativeendocrinology.com/femhormonesfull.html and here: http://www.restorativeendocrinology.com/menopausalwomenfull.html Good luck! > > Hi folks, I am a lurker. Guest guest
Here are Lee's articles on hormone balancing. The information comes from Ray Peat. http://www.litalee.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=33 & cat=Hormonal+Balancing Ray Peat says PMS is caused by too much estrogen and not enough progesterone. Believe it or not, Black Cohosh works as an estrogen. I took it and I got relief but I hit the wall when I became post menopausal. I wish I had known about thyroid and progesterone earlier. One thing you can start doing today is eat raw carrots to rid your body of estrogens. Ray Peat discovered that progesterone goes 100% into the body when taken with vitamin E. You can buy the progesterone from Lee. Maca is another option, although says it doesn't work. I think it is worth looking into. http://www.thyroid-info.com/articles/macaq & a.htm There are some iodine advocates on this list. It looks like it can give relief but it has a negative affect when too much is taken. Joan
Guest guest
Progesterone is a precursor to cortisol in the steroid hormone pathway. If your adrenals are sapped and you have low levels of cortisol (with corresponding high DHEA) - i.e., midstage adrenal fatigue - your adrenals convert progesterone to cortisol to compensate. Thus, one's progesterone levels fall precipitously and then ends up in estrogen dominance. Add to that the prevalence of environmental estrogens... Dr Rind also has some helpful resources at http://www.drrind.com/Home.htm - somewhere buried on that website is a presentation at the 2006 WAPF meeting - definitely worthwhile reading because it touches on adrenals, thyroid, and menopause. I can't remember if the original poster mentioned having had testing done, but it would probably be worthwhile to do some basic hormonal panels to see just how bad hormonal levels are before one starts supplementing randomly, with food, herbs or more chemically things. Neuroscience Inc. has some saliva tests for hormones (and neurotransmitters, which can also go wacky with hormonal imbalances) that may be covered by insurance, if that's an option. -jennifer On Apr 29, 2009, at 1:24 PM, Joan Lulich wrote: > > > Here are Lee's articles on hormone balancing.
