Guest guest
I suggest checking out beyondveg.com. They have many articles debunking the raw food movement. Although their focus is primarily with raw vegan, they none the less have many articles about raw meat. I think Sally does a good job explaining in NT why cooking makes certain foods more nutritious, but basically cooking can either destroy anti-nutrients or make nutrients more bio-available. Another issue is that some foods are easier to chew when cooked. I certainly think raw foods should be an important part of one's diet, but I don't think 100% raw is really ideal either. I think you have to operate under two basic guiding principles: 1. Listen to your body not experts. Never eat anything because someone tells you to if it makes you feel bad. 2. Consider each food item and how cooking affects it. Cooking certainly can make some foods less nutritious (destroys enzymes, pro-biotics, vitamins), but in some cases the opposite is true. Also, if cooking makes a certain food taste better, you'll eat more and get more nutrition. > > I just attended a workshop by raw food guru Aajonus Vonderplanitz and was pretty impressed with his lecture and his personal story and findings. However, much of it is in opposition to what Sally Fallon writes about (e.g. eating whole raw eggs and not just the yolk, NOT freezing liver or any meat before eating it, etc. etc. etc.). > > As I'm not a scientist, I do not know if I *should* be eating 100% raw meat or continue to follow the diet of Sally Fallon which incorporates cooked foods such as bone broths. Both Aajonus and Sally say that their assertions are based on good science and by looking at native diets so it's really hard to know. I'd love to hear from the people on this group. > > Carolee >
Guest guest
Aajonus Vonderplanitz is not the only raw animal food eater out there. Check out www.rawpaleoforum.com for some serious raw animal food eaters who don't believe everything Aajonus says. I am cherimoya_kid there, and Geoff Purcell is a moderator there as well. you can also check out rawpaleodiet.com for some testimonials and such.
