fluoride use

Hi, I am new to your group. I have a question regarding using

fluoride toothpastes or rinses. I am trying to practise the Weston

Price style of eating. I came to this about two years ago. Two of

my three children have lots of cavities that we recently had

filled. We hadn't been to a dentist in about 4 years. We brush

almost every single day(We are much better now than we were when my

youngest was small and I was constantly exhausted). We use non-

fluoridated toothpaste by Tom's of Maine. And we have made alot of

progress in improving our diets. My nine year old had to have 11

cavities filled and one ended up abscessing and had to be pulled. My

pediatric dentist is recommending fluoride treatments every 3 months

for my six year old (who's had six cavities so far) and looks at me

askance when I decline fluoride treatments at our visits and tell

her that we use non-fluoridated toothpaste. I remember reading on

Dr. Tom Cowan's site about fluoride being an enzyme inhibitor. I do

not want to give my children fluoride if it will harm them and yet I

am worried that I am not doing my best to protect them from further

cavities. Does anyone have some wisdom to offer me on this? I

tried giving them cod liver oil and high vitamin butter oil in fruit

shakes everyday because I read that Weston Price stopped tooth decay

in children that way, but it didn't seem to work for us and the

children tired of having smoothies everyday. How do others get

their children to take the cod liver and butter oils?

Well, thank you for allowing me to participate. Hope to hear from a

few of you.

Chrystal
