Thank you for the reactions. That was most helpful. I have some more

specific questions :

Tammy and , the instructions say to wash it in soapy water after every

use. But do you take of the rubber part from the plastic part every day or

only once a week when you desinfect ? Do you put a kind of oil on the rubber

once in a while ? It says so on the intructions. Which oil do you use ? I

understand some may be harmful for the rubber. We have a ASTRA pep mask.

Which brand do you have in the US ? Between the way in and out, there is a

place which you cannot touch ... is it airdry in 24 hours ?

Yesterday, blew in the PEP with mouth piece and then afterwards in

the mask. For the moment she seems to blow better on the mouth piece a she

opens her mounth better than in the mask. There wasn't any air coming out of

the mask when she blew. We haven't used a nose plug yet. The difficulty is

to make her blow long enough. We do it as part of CPT for the moment in the

morning. In the evening she gets the usual CPT. Do you do twice or once CPT

when completely on PEP ?

It sounds great and independant from a therapist in the long run. They told

us to start the PEP as soon as possible as it is said to be effective in

clearing the lungs. I know about a boy who has done it since he's two and

has become very good at it. He's three now. And your Zack seems to be an

expert as well, Tammy. I suppose it also depends on the child as of which

age it works. I will see with .

, we also have this PEP valve in addition to the mask. It seems you

can use both in combination. But I haven't tried it yet. I will let you know

how it works for . It's true when she's in a non-cooperative mood, we

don't get anywhere.

How did you get this tiny tube dry ? Just let it air dry ?

GrandmomBev, yes we received written instructions with it but it is not very

specific. Forgive me, but what it an RN and RT ? Probably well known in the

US, but me with English as my third language, I am lost.

I may be in touch with some of you directly with further questions.

Torsten, let us know when is back !

Many thanks.

Liesbeth...Do you mean the valve??? Yes I take our rubber part out every

time we wash it. I worry that it doesn't completely dry if I don't. I have

never oiled the rubber part...I did not know you had to do this...my

instruction's don't indicate this...perhaps our brand...PARI Pep uses a

different material. I don't know about this part you can not touch. Is

that part of the PEP mask or the attachment?? We can touch any part of

ours. If we forget to wash it and it is still wet or it just hasn't dried

yet then we use a hair dryer to finish up the job. We also do this when we

forget to wash our masks.

We used to do both...practice PEP and do full CPT. As Zack's sets

increased we took off 5 minutes of CPT for every set he completed

successfully. Our CPT program was 28 minutes long so if he completed five

full sets of 15 blows then he did not do any CPT. Eventually we did just

PEP in the morning and just CPT in the evening. Then in Januray the

physiotherapist said you know he's good enough that if he wants he can do

just PEP morning and evening and no CPT. So we gave ZAck the choice and he

always chooses just PEP.

I hope this helps.

Take care and good luck
