Guest guest
For digestion of proteins, AFP Peptizide by Houston works for many kids. For metabolizing proteins, You can read about CBS up regulation on www.autismanswer.com by joining parent forum there. Amy Yasko talks a lot about protein metabolism amoung autistic children. We are not doing Yasko's treatment but I have read enough to be interested and keep an ongoing eye on it. Have you done any Plasma Amino Asid testing? After we did this test with Metametrix lab, we started on their custom amino acid with real success. Best, Haleh --- allison_lillies <caneng@...> wrote: > My son has difficulty metabolizing protein. Guest guest
Haleh, After starting the custom amino acids, has your son's food choices expanded? I'm currently using peptizyde (zyme prime & no fenol too) for my youngest son who avoids meat and most protein foods like the plague. So, far no progress expanding his extremely limited diet. We have not done an OAT, did have the Metametrix organic acid test. I'm thinking the amino acid testing would be helpful too. My 9 yr. old is ticcy, not autistic. He will eat both crunchy and soft, so I don't think it's as sensory related, as more likely something off in metabolism. TIA for any thoughts! Guest guest
The biggest thing that expanded my son's food choices was more restrictive diet. His food choices expanded after GFCF and then got another boost when we removed cashews, egg whites, coconut, soy and bunch of other stuff he had sensitivities to and a lot of others on rotation. He suddenly seemed to take pleasure from eating. My son has extremely high IgA to his own DPP enzymes so I just removed AFP Peptizide and he stopped taking enzymes all together with no adverse reaction. Although his stool test indicated maldigestion of meat fiber, we still give him chicken, pork, and turkey, he will not eat beef at all. He was severely deficient in tryptophan in spite eating fair amount of meet especially turkey. I can't say it was the amino acids that improved his diet but for sure elimination diet helped a bunch. Amino Acids helped him cognitively and with language. You may want to check out Amy Yasko's ammonia protocol for your son, especially if you ever smell ammonia in his urine or BM. According to her, kids who have CBS upregulation can't digest proteins and end up with too much ammonia which also impair their methylation cycle. She also talks extensively about Glutamin, Glutamate and glutamic acid as excitotoxins for these kids. We did a metametrix ION profile which included Plasma Amino Acids and it was very helpful. Guest guest
I take the custom amino acid powder and it tastes awful! How do you get your kid to take it? G. Guest guest
I put one teaspoon of metabolic maintenance custume AA and one tsp xylitol or date sugar in his cup, and then all the other launry list. I then pour a sour juice (Pure sour cherry juice) 1/2 and pine apple Juice 1/2 and I mix it well. I tast it and adjust untilit is good. It has to be chilled. I give it with meals and not necessarily away from other protein and we did get a great gain from it, so I know it works. Good luck Haleh --- G <jsbach@...> wrote: > I take the custom amino acid powder and it tastes awful! Guest guest
I will then say 0.54g of protein per a pound of bodyweight is optimal for muscle repair. Yours Truly, Dan Holt Begin forwarded message: From: " Veritas " <info@...> Date: March 24, 2009 12:34:30 PM PDT " ' Holt' " <danthemanholt@...> Subject: RE: Protein metabolism Dear Dan, One-third of protein eaten is dissipated to metabolize it. Therefore, it is necessary to consume more protein than is necessary just for muscle repair. Hawkins book Healing and Recovery he states that one third the calories of protein are burned to metabolize protein. He then states that one third of excess protein is burned to metabolize protein. If I just consume enough protein for muscle repair do will one third of the protein calories be burned or is that only if I consume excess protein?
