UNBELIEVABLE! i don't even have words for this!

amanda

I just glanced at the current issue of The Atlantic and saw this:

http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200904/case-against-breastfeeding

Can you believe this s***?

The header:

" IN CERTAIN OVERACHIEVING CIRCLES, breast-feeding is no longer a choice--it's

a no-exceptions requirement, the ultimate badge of responsible parenting. Yet

the actual health benefits of breast-feeding are surprisingly thin, far thinner

than most popular literature indicates. Is breast-feeding right for every

family? Or is it this generation's vacuum cleaner--an instrument of misery that

mostly just keeps women down? "

I read this article last week, and didn't have time to post.

She claims that studies don't show >that much< benefit. But the studies

are from infants nursed 6 months. If they compared humans nursed to 3

years with those formula fed, the stats would be different.

It seems like Ms. Rosin's issue may be her perception of equality in her

marriage (or lack thereof) rather than breastfeeding. What struck me is that

despite all her " evidence " , she's still nursing her son.

Why people need to tear apart things that mean something to others is beyond

me...
