Radiant Recovery sells a whey protein isolate called 's Restore that is free of sugars and nasty ingredients. You do have to add your own flavorings and liquid. http://www.radiantrecoverystore.com/ingredients.html From the store blurb: " 's® Restore has a base of whey protein isolate (very pure) and a few other things to create a taste, texture and flavor that is very pleasant. Restore is very digestible and seems to be an ideal product for people with a skittish gut. It is soothing and healing. It is perfect for kids, and ideal for pregnant and nursing moms. Everyone who tries it loves the taste. It does not have vitamins or a carb in it. Many people use 's® Restore to up the protein level of their Original Shake. You can also add 's® Restore to baking, soups, muffins, etc. Our cookbook called Radiant Recipes gives a lot of ways to do this addition. Guest guest
Over here in Sacramento a gallon of raw milk is between $10-$14 dollars. That will make you 80 oz of whey. You would have 1.5-3oz a day. That's cheaper than buying whey online. Immunical is cheese whey and isn't as strong as immunopro. You may want to look into that colostrum though as it may be a better value. Well Wisdom states it is nondenatured. The only problem is it may not be high in cystine which is the main benefit of whey. Guest guest
But doesn't whey only stay good for a couple of weeks when separated? and then I don't enjoy the cream cheese very much. Then you need something like bread or crackers for to eat the cheese, products I am trying to stay away from. For me it wouldn't be a good use of raw milk, I'd rather drink the milk. I can't get milk for that price here. Alone by the gallon, it's around the same price but then you have to pay some drop off fee that tacks another 20 dollars on. I can get goat milk from whole foods (golden Fleece) but the quality is poor, it's consistency is almost like water. > > > > > > Can anyone recommend a good brand? Guest guest
Greg, do you know if this comes from pastured cows and processed at low temps and the whole nine yards? Guest guest
Greg, Is proteinfactory.com's CFM Whey Isolate as good as their bio-fresh whey? I have been using that for awhile. It also mixes easily and the unflavored is good tasting. I will switch to the bio-fresh if it is superior. Guest guest
Someone told me whey stays good for up to two months. Raw milk doesn't spoil, it sours and ferments instead. You can preserve raw whey for longer by keeping it in the refrigerator or the freezer. So many of the health benefits are lost once whey had been pasteurized. You mine as well get the " nondenatured " whey instead. The growth factors and the cystine is destroyed in the process of heating, which is excellent for muscle building and health. Those are really the two only benefits to whey protein anyway. Pasteurized whey is worthless. $20 isn't expensive to make your own whey. It's cheaper and far better quality. That will last you a month. You can use the 48 oz of curds to make cheese. www.cheesemaking.com Yours Truly, Dan Holt On Jun 10, 2009, at 9:48 AM, " Cray Fish " <crayfishfeed@...> wrote: But doesn't whey only stay good for a couple of weeks when separated? and then I don't enjoy the cream cheese very much. Guest guest
I wonder why there is such a difference in price b/w the biofresh and the immunopro. I wonder if it's the quality of the milk that drives the price up for the immunopro. > > > > > > Can anyone recommend a good brand? Guest guest
Biofresh is pasteurized. Even if it was put through cold filtration The milk it was derived from is pasteurized. That is why immunopro costs more. Biofresh's cystine is ruined and the immune/growth factors are destroyed. Here's a cheaper non-denatured whey if you don't want to make it yourself: www.lifestar.com If you buy it on a regular basis they make you a preferred costumer and sell it to you for $8 cheaper. Not sure if it is made from pastured cows. It is derived from milk. Guest guest
I call up the companies and they tell me whether or not they are pasteurized. All commercial whey sold is pasteurized except for a select few. Lifestar heats up the milk the whey was derived from at 80 degrees for a short period of time and at 50 degrees. The average temperature the whey is pasteurized at is 161 degrees. Guest guest
Greg, What is wrong with casein proteins? What is appealing about immunopro? Is it made from raw milk? I make kefir from raw, organic milk. I guess that is 'making my own', correct? Pamela If you are going to buy from proteinfactory, their best powders seem to be bio-fresh and Super Plasma Protein. At the price of Super Plasma Protein, though, you may as well be eating steak. Bio-fresh is supposed to be a 48 hour turnaround, and thus, fresher. It tastes and mixes better than CFM. Don't by their casein proteins! Dan got me interested in trying out immunopro now, or making my own.
Guest guest
I may be wrong. I believe many people are allergic to the growth and immune factors and kefir destroys them. If kefir is acidic it will denature the cystine. If it is alkaline it won't. I don't know how that works. Guest guest
According to this paper (www.pjbs.org/pjnonline/fin94.pdf), there is a methionine-cystine complex in kefir, presumably post-fermentation. With fermentation, there also is an increase in free amino acids: http://books.google.com/books?id=7LYHFGLJQNQC & lpg=PA95 & ots=YQU9ZQ-UZ4 & dq=kefir%2\ 0cystine & pg=PA95 With enough time, fermentation with kefir grains will breakdown casein (one problematic component - very allergenic to some of us) - but that requires at least 24 hours of fermentation, sometimes more (temperature-dependent and microbe-dependent). Lactobacillus delbrueckii (I think that's its current name) is the only species I've read about to date that is able to fully hydrolyze casein; everybody else only partially hydrolyzes it. -jennifer On Jun 14, 2009, at 10:08 PM, Holt wrote: > > > I may be wrong.
