Guest guest
This is all new to me and really good timing. My family has raw milk to drink, I have started making kombucha as we only get 2 gals a week now and this is not enough to make kefir or yogurt and still have enough to drink. Anyway, our family history is very slow metabolism, what one doctor earlier in my life called a stingy liver which is always in starvation mode. I have made bad choices for weight control my whole life from pills to surgery and am now in my 50's. My 70+ mother was just diagnosed with type II diabetes and is again starting on the weight control thing. Any way, just minimal history. Well my biggest concern is for my 19 year old son. He is very big, over 300 pounds, very strong but also carrying lots of extra weight. Although some years I have been very good about preparing food for my family the last 4 years or so I have not had good enough health myself to always keep on top of things and for the last 2 years we are almost back to total grocery store diet again. I have always scoffed at the dry whey stuff because we have had access to raw milk for the last 8 years but the recent discussion I just caught up on about whey powders is opening questions for me. I will be honest, my health does not permit me to spend hours researching just now and I really really would like to help my son get his metabolism straightened out now before he hits the weight loss trails that were so destructive to my health. I read several of the websites recently recommended and am more confused than ever. If someone could summarize or help me with a clear answer. Will whey powder help normalize food utilization and increase energy production so that my son can loose weight with his exercising. This is one of our problems, the body always being in " storage " mode, even lots of exercise does not produce fat utilization. He was so discouraged last year, he was swimming laps 45 minutes 3 times a week plus working out with weights 30 minutes 3 times a week and still not loosing much of the fat. I am again starting to work on food choices but these alone are not showing results yet and the regimented exercise did not work so became a burden and was stopped. This is such a big thing in my family. I had hoped my son would get my husbands metabolism but instead he got mine. I do not want him dealing with burnt out adrenals, thyroid, arthritis, firbromyalgia etc. that are partly hereditary and partly legacies of bad yo-yo chemical dieting over the years. Thanks so much if anyone can help. I would be more than happy if this is not a good topic for the loop if someone could help me off line as well at thedemesas@...
