should we consume flax seed/flax oil?

While these seeds (flax and poppy) were grown for their oil, it is

highly unlikely the oil was consumed as a food as both oils are of a

highly unstable nature and not suitable for human consumption by

crude methods of extraction. Many scientific studies on omega 3 fatty

acids are used by proponents of flax oil to encourage the belief that

flax oil, because of its extensive use in paint and other industrial

uses for thousands of years, somehow means it was also consumed as a

food for thousands of years, the same goes for the seeds. This

couldn’t be further from the truth. ..

Ghandi certainly loved his flaxseeds.  But if you look at the health statistics

record of the enlightened individuals in our history their lifespan and personal

health isn't all that impressive.
