Guest guest
Hello I was delighted to find the UN Declaration of Human Rights via the Freedom of Mind site. Imo, as the 12-step program is a religion, coerced participation in it is a breach of Article 18, which provides for freedom of thought and conscience: " Article 18. Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance. " For those that consider I might be dodgy on accepting the rights of others myself, I include: " Article 19. Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers. " I dont think this means in this contect that everyone has the right to say what they like on any email list. I believe it means that everyone has the right to *create* their own email list. One guy on a list I owned basically spent his time saying I applied vacuums to beasts of burden and seemed to think he had a perfect right to do this on my list. In snail mail terms that is like suggesting I should assist him publicly insulting me by providing stamps and envelopes and posting the letters for him. I find it remarkable that Mike N should try to inappropriately claim freedom of speech here, when he is participating in the much more serious breech of freedom of conscience on pain of loss of liberty by slip-signing.
