Guest guest
, Legally any doctor cannot treat your child without your consent as it is not a life-threatening condition. Typically these type of castings would be done in a doctors office and not at the hospital so in order for a doctor to begin casting you would have to take your child to the doctor for that purpose. Many babies have begun treatment a lot older then 10-days, so you shouldn't have any problem waiting at all. When you go in for delivery be sure to inform the hospital staff and maternity/infant ward that under no circumstances is your baby to be examined, x-rayed, or otherwise seen by any physician without your knowledge and presence. It just so happens that the hospital pediatrician x-rayed our son without our knowledge. We were absolutely furious and considered filing a complaint with the medical board. Subsequently, we left the hospital upset a day earlier than necessary. Dr. Ponseti doesn't x-ray the babies as he has said it is not necessary for diagnosis and further he can feel where the bones are. However, if the attending pediatrician or other doctor needs an x-ray for diagnosis, referral, etc. make sure the genital region is covered up with the protective barrier. You or the dad should also be able to be in the x-ray room with the baby. Best of luck. & trenton More questions about Ponseti method protocol As I get closer and closer to my due date, I've been wondering, when I have this baby and the doctors see that she has clubfeet, they will want me to see a doctor who specializes in Pediatric Orthopedics. This I plan on doing so as to get a confirmation of the clubfoot diagnosis. The doctor will probably want to start casting (the half leg cast). Should I not allow this, since I'll be going to Iowa when the baby is 10 days old? Is this going to be a problem at the hospital do you think? Thanks for any advice...
