Guest guest
Hi Sally, I was ADDICTED to Funny Bones prior to surgery, and have not eaten (not even a bite), since August 7th! I still crave my chocolate, especially during PMS, but have a piece of sugar free chocolate, or a piece of " real " chocolate...works for me! Dawn wavering Hi everyone, As many of you know, I had my first consultation with Dr. Thayer on Wednesday. I was very up that day and thinking I could do it. Yesterday (Thursday), I began to doubt myself. Can I do it? What will I eat? Would I be making a big mistake? You see, my husband has to be on a gluten-free diet due to his gluten intolerance. That means no wheat, food thickeners, reading labels really closely at the store. I was/maybe am thinking can we do two different kinds of diets? What will I eat for proteins eventually? All these questions going through my head. Doug came home and said well if the surgery will perhaps eliminate the Barrett's Esophagus (yet to be determined by my gastroenterologist, Dr. Curtis at NWH and Dr. Thayer) altogether, than that is reason enough. Barrett's can go into a cancerous state. So, then I waver back towards the surgery. I have done enough research on this surgery. It is just my head I need to get straight, if you know what I mean. I also have the added problem of two adrenal problems. I do not make enough cortisol (a steroid which we all make). So, I have to take Prednisone as a replacement therapy. Well, when I have surgeries, I have to have large doses of steroids to help with the stress to my body which my adrenals are not able to cope with. So, after surgeries, I fill up with fluid from the steroids which makes my hips, thighs, buttocks, hard, and it takes days for that to go away. So, I will have to get rid of that extra last minute added weight before I can start on MY weight. The steroids are absolutely necessary or I die. I am just bouncing all this off my head. After the first month, could anyone tell me what good nutritous things you eat for proteins? Does your taste or desire for things really change? I am a binger at times, seeking chocolate. If I go on a diet (on Mondays, of course), if there is still a box of crackers in the house, I go for salty crackers also. Are these urges for certain things gone? Just up and down in my thinking, but I know the surgery would help me and so many of my medical problems and perhaps avoid some others which are in my family history. Sorry, I have rambled and, I guess vented. Thanks so much for listening to me. It is a big decision. Sally
