Guest guest
check out lifekind.com - they've got a variety of different types of mattresses but be forewarned that they are pretty pricey. on the other hand, they have great customer service and the mattresses are made in the US. -jennifer On Dec 13, 2009, at 11:31 AM, Shakes wrote: > Hi, > > Our current mattress is too soft and our backs are protesting, :-). > > We are looking for some harder, natural mattresses. > > I had read about natural latex mattress with a woollen covering. Guest guest
Not sure where you live, but if it's in the Bay Area then you should check out European Sleepworks. They have a full line of chemical free, natural latex mattresses. If you don't live in the area then you can call them as they sell to other stores around the country. You can ask them about latex allergies. I researched it too and it doesn't apply here. Solid foam latex mattresses can be very firm especially if you put it on a solid wood platform. I recommend their slat system since it adjusts for firmness. Lifekind is a good source too but a little more expensive. Beware of other sellers because they can call it natural latex but if it has 'anything' other than latex on the ingredients then it's not pure latex. Even if those ingredients are natural/organic. Additionally, sleeping on or under wool lowers your blood pressure 100% of the time. Finally, you do not want a mattress with chemical fire retardants. American women have 80 times the amount of PBDE's in their breast milk of any other industrialized country. PBDE's are fire retardants. European Sleepworks is not expensive either. Their mattresses cost about the same as you would spend on a nice conventional mattress. Don't get the memory foam mattresses. Firemen call them gasoline mattresses because they burn so easily and offgas a lot. Good luck. Guest guest
We bought a Savvyrest and absolutely love it. The company did say that occasionally someone will have an allergy to it but it's rare and " the person will know they have a latex allergy " thus should not buy a latex mattress. Sounds like something that you'll know you have IOW if you don't know you have a natural latex allergy, you'll be fine with the mattress. Good luck! Guest guest
Hi Katrina, Thanks for the detailed reply. Yes, we live in the bay area. I did check out European Sleepworks and liked their products. Also, do you know if there is any difference between Dunlop latex and Talalay latex manufacturing methods ? Any idea which is preferred ? thanks again, suman. > >> Hi, >> >> Our current mattress is too soft and our backs are protesting, :-). >> >> We are looking for some harder, natural mattresses. >> >> I had read about natural latex mattress with a woollen covering. Guest guest
My research suggested that Talalay is the best because it provides a more uniform product. However, I recall seeing a post on another group that Dunlop might be the best. Since, it¹s been over six years that I did my research I wouldn¹t feel comfortable making a recommendation. I¹m glad that you live in the Bay Area. If you don¹t live near Berkeley then you can call them and they can tell you about other local distributors. Good luck and this is the best investment that you can make toward your health. You spend more of your life on this one piece of furniture than any other. So, make sure it is chemical free.
