The best one I ever tried was Thai Kitchen - it is milk and comes in cans,

but they do add Guar gum (I dunno if that's GAPS legal, but it is GFCF).

Thanks Lana. They do have it at my local HFS but guar gum is not GAPS legal.

GAPS is essentially WAPified SCD. So no " funny " carbs.

Guar gum actually gets a lot of respect in my book, being as it is a

galactomannan. Galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) are hard to find - they're

most prevalent in breastmilk and IMHO they are some of the best prebiotics

around.

But I totally get the sticking to the letter of a diet.

so you don't think we should avoid things with guar gum in them? i have heard

that it is like glue along with carrageenan and other additives and should be

avoided.

No, I don't think guar gum should be avoided. Locust bean gum isn't

terrible either. I think I may be grouping tara gum with those two as well

since its so similar but I haven't seen as much research about it.

However, I do believe carrageenan should be avoided.

I have mixed feelings about xanthan gum.

Typically gums don't function as glues, they function as emulsifiers - they

combine fats and liquid. This can possibly make things harder to digest (in

a similar way that homoginized milk is harder to digest). They're also used

to thicken (which afaik has no health implications) which helps improve

texture (such as in GF goods). However, due to their hygroscopic

properties, they can bulk up stool - but not in the way " glue " implies -

they keep stool moister and give bacteria food to eat - neither of which is

a bad thing.
