Just how slimy? Coconut meat should look like cooked egg whites. It's like it

has the same texture and qualities of egg whites too. If that's how it looks

then it should be find. It's very moist.

Last week, my husband purchased a Thai coconut for me.  $6!

Today, we went to crack it open.  The bottom was soft and pinkish.  After some

hard THWACKS, we finally got the juice out...almost two cups!  It tastes pretty

good.

The coconut inside is pretty slimey.  Is that how it's supposed to be?  Had

our coconut gone " bad " ?  The outer later was a little soft, and when you

looked INSIDE the coconut, the bottom looked brown, not white.  Should we not

drink the juice?

Help!

Thank you!

Thai coconuts are usually immature coconuts from my experience, and can be

rather soft, definitely softer and 'slimier' than cooked egg whites. Usually

soft enough to be easily scraped off with a spoon. The ones that I opened that

were bad usually had juice that didn't taste nice and sweet...like it started to

ferment. Just to be safe I normally wouldn't eat them if the juice tasted

fermented.

I often found the bottom to be more brown than the rest and to be soft at some

parts...that was normal from my experiences. I normally jam something in the

soft spot and drain the juice out, then worry about cracking it open after I

drank the juice.
