Guest guest
My wife bought me a sauerkraut crock with a wooden piece to go inside for Christmas. I usually make sauerkraut the Nourishing Traditions way with lots of pounding before putting it in canning jars. I thought using the crock and the Sandor Katz approach would save me a lot of effort, but I'm having a problem with the wooden piece. I just spent about an hour with a wire hanger and lots of pushing and pulling to get the wooden piece (that has four small holes in it) out to check how the sauerkraut was doing. Then I couldn't get the piece back in evenly--it always ended up slanted with one side sticking way up above the liquid. Does anyone make sauerkraut this way? How do you get the wooden piece off? There must be an easier way. Thanks for any tips you may have. Bill
