Guest guest
It sounds like you're going about it right. At that age, it depends on what they're willing to eat! I've broken down and let my kids get those sweet kefir drinks, etc. after antibiotics, just in case there was something still alive in them, probiotic-wise. Now my daughter will eat sauerkraut but my son thinks it's weird and yucky. The salt-fermented lactobacillus lasts in the gut for about a month while the dairy/whey kind lasts for a week or less, so if he's willing to eat some sauerkraut or fermented beets or carrots, that might help. You can buy online s.boulardii supplements. I keep them around now for just in case and the kids take some whenever they get a sick stomach. It kills off a lot of bad bacteria and candida in the gut, and also protects it from toxins they give off. My kids just chew up the capsules - the s.boulardii has a pleasant, yeasty taste. Re: the ear infection. Once my kids had a contagious one that was passed from one kid to another. Otherwise, I think a lot of time they start when the kids get water in their ears from bathing. If he's had these before or is worried about another one, try either using the hair dryer to dry out his ears or using those eardrops for swimmers. > > > Hi, > > My four-year-old is just wrapping up a 10-day antibiotic regimen (not by my choice!) for an ear infection. > > I've been giving him raw yogurt, kombucha (about 4 oz./day), and a Klaire Labs Vital-10 capsule daily. Guest guest
For myself, I've noticed that if I eat refined carbs I get ear aches within a few hours. I've also noticed that high dose (2-3g) ascorbic acid eliminates/prevents this. You should also be aware that treating ear infection with antibiotics is a trap. Several studies has demonstrated a higher recurrence rate after treatment with antibiotics compared to placebo. Here is one example: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19567910 Thus I would make sure the child is getting plenty of vitamin A, D and C as these are all strongly protective against ear infection. Guest guest
That's interesting about the carbs. I've read in dogs the carbs can create a yeast infection in their ears. > > > > > > > > > Hi, > > > > > > My four-year-old is just wrapping up a 10-day antibiotic regimen (not by my choice!) for an ear infection. > > > > > > I've been giving him raw yogurt, kombucha (about 4 oz./day), and a Klaire Labs Vital-10 capsule daily.
