Guest guest
Besides supporting Monsanto, Kagan served on an advisory board at Goldman Sachs. Take action here: http://capwiz.com/grassrootsnetroots/issues/alert/?alertid=15082126 or call your senators: 202-224-3121 --- US Solicitor General Elena Kagan, President Obama's pick for the Supreme Court, is the most recent in a long line of pro-biotech Obama appointees who include USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack, National Institute of Food and Agriculture director Beachy, FDA senior adviser on food safety , USTR Agricultural Negotiator Islam Siddiqui, and USAID director Rajiv Shah. As Solicitor General, Kagan submitted a friend of the court brief to the Supreme Court in favor of Monsanto's appeal in Monsanto v. Geertson Seed Farms. Sent: Thu, June 10, 2010 3:10:19 PM Subject: Kagan the corporatist lawyer A great reason to call your congressional rep and tell them to vote AGAINST KAGAN or other corporate shill nominees. We've seen the damage already inflicted by the corporate Supreme Court already. Want ore? Congressional Switchboard number is 202-224-3121 Dear editor, Elena Kagan is yet another corporatist lawyer of the same stripe as those installed onto the Supreme Court during the Bush administration. If confirmed, she can be trusted to further extend corporate America 's grip on all three branches of the federal government. As proof of this, you need look no further than Ms. Kagan's work as the U.S. Solicitor General. Ms. Kagan's office submitted a friend of the court brief arguing in favor of arguing in favor of the Monsanto Corporation's appeal in Monsanto v. Geertson Seed Farms, said appeal being Monsanto's attempt to get Supreme Court approval for release of Monsanto's genetically engineered alfalfa. This move by Solicitor General Kagan was in spite of well-informed and principled opposition from consumers and family farmers, and in spite of the fact that the USDA never did a proper Environmental Impact Statement on Monsanto's product. We must find a Senator or Senators who will be willing to raise this issue during Kagan's confirmation hearings, and who will have the guts to generate a grassroots and inside-the-Beltway firestorm that will derail Kagan's confirmation. Tom Harkin of Iowa is a possibility. Others might be Russ Feingold of Wisconsin or Bernie of Vermont. Call them up. Ask them to stop Kagan's confirmation and insist on Warren or Sheila Bair as the next nominee. They're the two people who tried hardest to warn everyone about the financial sector meltdown before it happened, and got nothing but scorn for their efforts. With Warren or Bair as the nominee, let ANY senator try to badmouth them for sticking up for the rest of us, and then see the effect that it has on their political careers. It's a long shot, but asking Washington to do something that will restore government Of the People, By the People and For the People most always is. It's still worth trying. Bosold 202 N. 5th St .
