Guest guest
I believe the concern with all fish oils, FCLO included, is that they are very high in omega series PUFAs. So while small amounts are fine and can provide very important A/D, too much of a good thing is not better. Even Dr. Price was concerned about taking too much. The fish oil market has transitioned away from A/D towards omega series PUFAs--which we feel is a big mistake. I would say that what you are doing is better than doing nothing at all. That you should limit the total daily intake so as not to take in too much omega series PUFAs and try to get some good old fashioned FCLO if you can. Lastly, keep in mind that most of the people Dr. Price studied didn't take CLO. So there are other alternative sources of A/D. (pastured liver and lard for example) Good Luck, > > Hi all, > > Has any one tried the Vital Choice Sockeye Salmon oil ? > > http://www.vitalchoice.com/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=126 & idcategory=239 > > How does it compare, health wise, to CLO ? > > I've been giving my 3.5 yr old daughter Garden of Life CLO (I remember reading in the " Wise Traditions " magazine 2 yrs ago that Garden of Life, along with Green Pasture, was one of the few brands that do not molecularly distill or deodorize their CLO). > > However, the Vit. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for the response. I have to say I am confused in this matter. I think my new question is how much Omega-3 and Vit. A/D are optimally required ? I use the Garden of Life CLO (my 3 yr old finds the FCLO too strong for taste). Their website says they do not deodorize or bleach their CLO and that it contains the naturally occurring A & D. I give her 1.5 teaspoons of it, which gives her about 7,500 IU of Vit. A and 300 IU of Vit.D. To this I add Vit. D drops to make the Vit. D about 1600 IU. It also gives her 1,443 mg (or 1.44 g) of Omega-3's. Is this ok or is this too much of Omega-3 and Vit. A/D. I have to add that she does not get sunshine daily (it's getting cold in the bay area). Thanks, Suman. From: paulsonntagericson <paulsonntagericson@...> Subject: Re: Vital choice Salmon Oil vs. CLO ? A/D are > optimally required Here is a list of articles on cod liver oil: http://www.westonaprice.org/cod-liver-oil.html Vitamin A/D recommendations are here: http://www.westonaprice.org/cod-liver-oil/238.html As for omega-3, it's important to realize that the majority of the hype around omega-3 is related to the fact that most people have un-naturally high intakes of omega-6. In other words, if your omega-6 intake is low your need for omega-3 is low as well. Also, there is actually not a lot of good, long term, data on the health effects of high omega-3 intake (good or bad). So despite all the hype, it's premature to start taking large amounts of omega-3. If you take fish oil, it should be high vitamin (A/D) oil and you shouldn't worry about omega-3. I definitely wouldn't take low vitamin fish oil for it's omega-3 content. Cheers,
