Guest guest
Hi Anne, You mentioned having acid reflux. Are you taking prilosec? It worked well for me. But what worked best was changing my diet. It turned out that I not only had a candida infection, but that I had developed A LOT of food intolerance's -- too many years of lots anti-inflammatories and abx without taking acidophilus. Have you ever tried an elimination diet? After figuring out the foods that were bothering me I didn't need the prilosec anymore, and the acid reflux is gone! Take care,
Guest guest
bad eating habits is a key for this ailment. the times for eating, such as late at night can give me acid reflux overnight. also what is eaten can cause the reflux. anolther thing to watch for is constipation, i know that can back me up enough to cause a bout of reflux. i can take an enema and get fast relief. fred
Guest guest
Have you ever tried an enzyme supplement, the one that I am about to get back on is called gastrozyme. I will try and be consistant with it this time and hope to be able to report good things back...LaTonya In a message dated 8/2/00 9:43:09 AM Central Daylight Time, lfallen328@... writes: << bad eating habits is a key for this ailment. the times for eating, such as late at night can give me acid reflux overnight. also what is eaten can cause the reflux. anolther thing to watch for is constipation, i know that can back me up enough to cause a bout of reflux. i can take an enema and get fast relief. fred >>
Guest guest
I'm on a low-carb diet newsgroup. I hear lots of people say their acid reflux disappeared when the started low-carbing, which would back up what you say about refined foods. Refined flour and sugar are usually the main things to go on a low carb diet. S+13 acid reflux a friend is having very bad acid reflux. My opinion is not enough water and bad eating habits and maybe even parasites. Guest guest
I've had this problem as well and have been given a prescription called Rantidine that works effectively. Remember not to take antacids because of the extra calcium. I learned this three kidney stones later. Guest guest
My daughter, , had a really sick stomach and heartburn from prednisone, but the doctors at the Children's Hospital acted as if it were psychosomatic. As soon as we got to the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Deborah Frieze acted very matter-of-factly about it and said that anyone on high doses of prednisone should be taking Prilosec to control the acid reflux. Good luck! Crimmins > I've been having trouble these past few nights with heartburn or > acid reflux or something. It only happens when I lay down. Guest guest
Dorothy, Many of the super enzymes have HCL and pepsin in it. Most of us don't need this, some do. Look to see if you have that in your supplement. If you feel stomach burning than it is related to the HCL and pepsin and stop taking it or take only enough that doesn't cause the burning. Look for other products that don't include the stomach acid. You don't need an ulcer trying to fix a reflux problem. Guest guest
Hi, Just a thought--Is it possible she has Heliobacter pylori? That is the bacterium responsible for gastric ulcers. Reflux is a symptom among others. The info I got from recent research says to INCREASE acid by adding HCL tablets before meal to kill the bug plus you can try the Cease Fire from VRI. Most doctors still say use an acid blocker. If she has esophageal problems, perhaps that is different. There is a test for H. pylori which is just a breathe test. If she has it, a group of antibiotics kill it along with Pepto Bismol. I think increasing acid helps, too. There are lots of natural cures too. I found lots of info on the web. By the way, lots of autistic kids get this bug. Some of the DAN! doctors test and treat for this. Hope this helps,

Sleep 1987 Apr;10(2):116-21. Abstract: To confirm that sleeplessness in infants can be related to an undiagnosed allergy to cow's milk proteins, 71 infants were studied. Group I consisted of 20 infants referred for chronic insomnia that had appeared in the early days of life. Group II was made up of 31 infants admitted for skin or digestive symptoms attributed to cow's milk intolerance; 13 of these infants were shown to sleep as poorly as the infants of group I. Group III consisted of 20 infants with no history of sleep disturbance or milk allergy. The three groups of infants were comparable for sex and age. Laboratory tests revealed immunologic reactions to milk in all the infants in groups I and II. The sleep of the insomniac infants (group I, and the 13 " poor sleepers " in group II) became normal after cow's milk was eliminated from the diet. Insomnia reappeared when the infants in group I were challenged with milk. We conclude that infants with clinically evident milk allergy may suffer from sleeplessness and that when no evident cause for a chronic insomnia can be found in an infant the possibility of milk allergy should be given serious consideration. > > On 7/28/03 3:07 PM, " nh_bred " <mitchell@...> wrote: > > Prior to taking my daughter off of milk, every so often she would > wake in the middle of the night screaming (in pain). Guest guest
Hi - I don't have info on the connection between acid reflux and autism, but I can tell you at least one way to control the acid reflux. It is a common comment on the Low Carbing lists that the low carb diet cured quite severe cases of acid reflux- I noticed, because this was the case for me as well. I used to have chronic and quite severe acid reflux... my esophagus was burned from it on several occasions, and by spring of last year even strong medication was not controlling it. When I started the low carb/specific carb diet my chronic reflux problem stopped entirely within a week, and I have not had one recurrance since then, except during a week when I went to three weddings in one week and had a much higher carb level than normal over that extended number of days; at that point I did have one very mild occurance. Probably not as easy a solution as one would like, but one that is often very effective, for what it's worth! -Ellie nh_bred wrote: >Prior to taking my daughter off of milk, every so often she would >wake in the middle of the night screaming (in pain). Guest guest
in other words carbs are feeding yeast. acid reflux says intestinal yeast i think also if your salt intake is to low not enough stomach acid is being made. > > >Prior to taking my daughter off of milk, every so often she would > >wake in the middle of the night screaming (in pain). Guest guest
Ok, I'm sure there'll be some arguments here but when Olivia suffers acid reflux, I give her a teaspoon of Maloxx. It works for us and almost instantly. Go figure. Rhonda Olivia's mom
Guest guest
I keep empty gelatin capsules and sometimes Younger Son has reflux or stomach ache around bedtime. I fill one about half-way with baking soda and he says it calms his stomach immediately. It would neutralize stomach acid (same as Maalox) so that is a very straightforward explanation. I can see a low carb diet doing this too because if you aren't able to digest something or a compound aggravates your stomach, this could cause excess stomach acid or indigestion. . Guest guest
This can work, but it can also sometimes have a nasty chronic rebound sort of effect. When I had that problem, my chiro said that sometimes your system can read the lessening of stomach acid as a *problem*, and respond by making *more* acid, which makes you take more antacid, round and round. That may just be a matter of how sensitive one's system is to inbalance, so that some people do very well with the Maalox and others have problems... just something to watch. I do suspect that the yeast is often a problem, as said, and that the low carb diet does work for that... and that other yeast controllers may also work well. And that it could also be caused by food sensitivities; my son gets abdominal cramps when he eats things that he's sensitive to. So no one solution fits all, I suppose... rhonda m pineau wrote: >Ok, I'm sure there'll be some arguments here but when Olivia suffers acid >reflux, I give her a teaspoon of Maloxx. Guest guest
I'm sure you have seen me print this before, but pure aloe vera juice really helps with acid indigestion and acid reflux. I buy 's brand as they have a way of removing the " woodsy flavor " that other brands have and it tastes just like water. I give my daughter 1/4 a cup and within 10 minutes she is fine. It's great for the gut also. Re: Acid Reflux > Ok, I'm sure there'll be some arguments here but when Olivia suffers acid > reflux, I give her a teaspoon of Maloxx. Guest guest
All of my children had reflux and screamed about 20 hrs a day until they started on solids. Then it got much better. They all have milk allergies. I'm not sure if starting on solids or reducing formula (non milk, non soy) helped. My youngest had reflux and never slept more than 1 hr at a time until he was 3. We moved and found out our well at the old house had bacteria. Within 2 weeks he was sleeping thru the night and reflux only flares when he has a virus. Something to try. Guest guest
You could do it the medication route, some very interesting new stuff on the market. Or you could do it the slow, non medication route. First eliminate the things that cause the acid reflux, harder to do if there aren't any accompanying behavior or skin reactions. Introduce enzymes to help with digestion and also use Ojibwa Tea and some good probiotics to help the body heal. Guest guest
Hi Cooky, l have acid reflux myself. Water is really important. l also cook carrotts and eat them when it really gets bad and also chew on a bagel. Might sound strange but for some reason it really helps me with the acid. She should be careful what she takes while pregnant. Hope this helps.
Guest guest
this might indicate you are not getting enough hormone--usually the acid reflux goes away when you are on the right meds. You can't take tums with thyroid meds at the same time--make sure you take them hours apart. They lessen the effects of the thyroid meds. Same goes for calicum supplements--take them I think it's at least 4 hours from the thyroid meds. others here know more about this one. tina > Since starting levoxyl I have had severe acid reflux. Guest guest
I have battled with this in the past---one thing that helps is to drink a lot of water (especially before bedtime) --even a lemon in the water helps digestion, try it and see. Also sleep elevated if you can. You need digestive enzymes to help this problem --it's common with adrenal fatigue as well. I know how painful this one is to deal with. Try also to gargle with warm water and baking soda--this will cut down on the acid pain in the throat. If the lemon works---that means you have less acid not too much. So that means you need digestive enzymes to help break up the food. > > Since starting levoxyl I have had severe acid reflux. Is that > common? Guest guest
Recently in the past couple of weeks my former acid reflux/heartburn has progressively returned & worsened, keeping me awake & burning my esophagus & chest, upsetting my stomach. This worries me a whole lot as I have erosion in my esophagus according to a recent endoscopy. Do I need to eat more fermented foods or take more digestive enzymes or more HCL w/pepsin or what? Not sure what to do to stop it & it's driving me nuts. I've been on a liquid diet the past few days because of oral surgery so won't be chewing anything for a while yet. That's another problem right now. Wondering if the liquid diet is making things worse in the digestive area. I think I'll start pureeing some cooked foods tomorrow. But this started way before I had the oral surgery or teeth problems so can't be related to that, could it?
