Guest guest
I understand your desire to go natural. This was a huge problem for us - son was up between 9-12 times a night. 1 Prevacid 15mg solutab per day has dramatically changed all of our lives. Just FYI. sczms <sczms@...> wrote: My son maybe having acid reflux in the night. He is waking really upset and this has gone on for a long time. I am considering acid reflux as a possible cause. Guest guest
I'll share my acid story with you. Our son had always been a terrible sleeper and had always cried a lot. He is nonverbal. We finally had him scoped by a DAN! friendly GI doc. His esophagus showed severe acid reflux. He had burned for years and couldn't tell us. He had scar tissue in his esophagus from it. The doc prescribed Prevacid solutabs 30mg daily. After two doses, he was almost like a different kid. Everyone kept asking us why he was so happy. I guess it was because he wasn't burning any more. That was a couple of years ago. He is now off the Prevacid, but still nonverbal. Pamela " Courage is doing what you're afraid to do. There can be no courage unless you're scared. We've had success with making a tea or gruel (depending on how thick you like it) of slippery elm. Hot water, slippery elm, a little cinnamon, and honey if desired. NOW brand slippery elm dissolves well. Dh, the kids, and I all like the way it tastes. The slippery elm coats and heals irritated mucous membranes in the esophagus. Guest guest
My own personal opinion is to look for different types of foods that might physically be causing abrasions and discontinue using them. For example: breads with corn meal embedded in the crust can have a sandpaper effect and sharp edges on French fries can scrape away on their way down the pipe. One food additive I am concerned about is diatomaceous earth. I read that when it's crushed and looked at through a microscope the particles resemble bits of broken glass. D.E. powder is used as a pesticide. When insects walk across DE powder it slices open their exoskeleton causing them to dehydrate and eventually die. It's used for a variety of applications from fleas to parasite control in animals also. Does this stuff create micro-abrasions in the human digestive system I really don't know for a fact, but if it slices and dices the way it's claimed to I think it needs to be studied in relationship to a host of potential problems throughout the entire human body. It may actually be a leading cause of acid reflux and who knows maybe even colon problems? You might only eat a scoop of ice cream or a single milkshake here and there, but since it is in many foods as a filler DE powder could be a major factor in health problems. If you are giving ALA, you may want to stop for awhile to treat and allow things to heal and then make sure you give it with food. I developed gastritis on large, infrequent doses of ALA, and more recently I seem to developed it again on a frequent, low dose of ALA. It is very acidic stuff and people/kids who are prone to stomach irritation should be cautious IMO. Stomach problems are horrible. Some other supps can irritate the stomach as well. I have had problems with ascorbic acid (acid form of vit C), and between meal enzymes (virastop and candidase). --

Guest guest
My son used to wake up screaming as well...he was having episodes of sleep apnea along with reflux so it was hard to tell what was causing what. I recently found out his adenoids were almost completely blocked through a simple xray done by the ear nose and throat...could this of caused my son's sleep problems for his first two years of life? Absolutely...and he was on Zantac and Prevacid almost his first two years of life...I think I should of had his adenoids checked A long time ago and removed...just my opinion...I'd have em checked even just to rule it out... > > > > My son maybe having acid reflux in the night. Guest guest
Hi . My son had reflux from yeast and bacterial overgrowth. He was on large doses of Prevacid at the time. It was a viscious cycle. As reflux got worse, dosage was increased, reflux worsened...etc. I started him on Grapefruitseed Extract and weaned him off of Prevacid at the same time. It took less than 3 weeks to get him off of 45mgs a day. And the reflux was manageable with natural yeast/bacteria fighters, including GSE. I use it and Enzymatic Therapy Yeast Balance for my own occasional reflux. Enzymatic Therapy makes an Orange Oil product, I have never usd it, but it was recommended to me some time ago. a > > My son maybe having acid reflux in the night. Guest guest
I add a tad of baking soda to acidic foods like tomatoes, iced tea, etc. and it sweetens it by neutralizing the acid. But I see that you want something that actually does something for you, rather than just adding sodium. How about grating a calcium pill into it? Guest guest
Thanks to everyone who responded to my Acid Reflux question. I'm also going to try Kids Digest by Enzymedica. I'm thinking it'll be gentler on his stomach since it's geared towards children. I'm also going to try the chewable probiotics since it doesn't have to be mixed with juice (he only drinks milk and water). Since it's chewable maybe it also is geared towards children and therefore also gentler on the stomach. For anyone would like to comment about these products or give additional advice, please feel free to do so. The more information I can get the better, I say. Guest guest
What is left to eat? I thought I was on a tough diet.lol I take protonix twice a day and it has been a life saver. I also sleep on my left side. I learned about that when I was pregnant what a blessing that was. I was told the lining of my stomach had all been eaten away because of the medicines and nerves. I also have sjorgens and have to be careful of what I take and do. I can't eat anything with acid more that 2x a week or my mouth gets blisters and I will even break out in hives because my body makes to much acid. I swear my body hates me!!!lol Oh gotta keep laughing no sense letting it get to you. I myself have had a hard time with it....mine is mostly caused by my medications post transplant. The article tutorial posted was very good. My gastro gave me a list of foods allowed and Not allowed.. Food NOT ALLOWED are as follows....iced foods or liquids; carbonated beverages. Corn, tomatos, cabbage, onions, pickles, rhubard, baked beans: spiced dishes, coarse cereals, salad oils, salad dressings, mayonnaise, raw fruits, fresh HOT bread, fried foods, gravies, pork, veal, pot roasts, stewed or boiled meats, chicken soup, buttermilk, nuts, candy, p[astries, pie, any food containing bran, cooked cheese and casseroles. Now, I do eat onions BUT I only eat them after I saute them then they are fine. I also eat mayo.as oong as not a lot them I am fine. I save tomatos for my pasta sauce and now only make it every couple weeks as opposed to weekly. I also use olive oil a lot. I also make my own chicken soup..now I no longer make my own broth as that can be too fatty but buy the boxed organic chicken broth and use roasted chicken and fresh veggys.and sometimes I add a bit of angel hair. BTW the cold foods and beverages cause them esophagus to spasm.hence brings up acid. ANOTHER TIP..when you go to bed at night.sleep on your LEFT side.the acid can not rise up because of the way your tummy is aligned with your esophagus. He showed me a model and I was amazed and he is right! So.folks you really don't need to raise the top of your bed as long as you can sleep on your left side. I haven't had an episode since I started on it 2 years ago - used to wake up choking and unable to breathe. An added plus of the Nexium is it can repair damage already done. Take care, Sandy C. Sometime, during the early moring, it seems that liquids move up into my throat, making me caugh. It happend every night latley and I sleep almost sitting up. I am caeful what I eat and have to chew an antacid when the lighuds come up. I have tried not drinking before going to sleep too but nothing is helping. Hi Jeanette. That is more likely to happen if you eat too many carbs and/or those not on the candida diet. Try having mostly protein and fats at supper, with little carbs and see if that helps. When you wake up with that feeling take 1/4 tsp. of baking soda mixed in 4-5 ounces of water (preferably warm, but don't microwave it) and slowly sip it until your symptoms subside. Drinking before sleep would not cause that problem. The best, Bee

The things that make mine better are more raw foods and things he says are a crock. Guest guest
I have heard this before but don't see how it's my thyroid as opposed to food when if i burp food could come back up, if i bend down it feels as though the food is going to be forced into my mouth etc. It is food, not a lump. HCl - i was on GAPS it made this worse (and i got constipated, still am 1.5 yrs later since going back to a low carb WAP - prior to GAPS was not and this food issue was more rare than frequent). I t ook loads of pro b's like 20 pills a day tec... of the BK as the book and GAPS forum say after removing fiber if this happens you need more flora. SO i was taking laods of pro b's and daily ferments eithre drinks or veggies - at least 2 or more cups. It advises taking HCl which i did, plus i was taking a broad spectrum enzyme, sweedish bitters. Drinking RAW ACV or lemon in my water, ferments, etc. Sometimes all of the above before and after meals. I was taking up to 6 pills of HCl per meal plus a couple or more of the broad spectrum. Like another mentioned i was scared to take anymore cause it seemed like this should be high enough between pills, the drinking and bitters. When doing all this i would get burning feelings later in my throat and food not going down was not really alleviated. So i pretty much stopped all that supplemental stuff. Still have the food issue but no more burning and gurgling in my throat or feel it all raising up when in bed. It seemed to me it was all the stuff making it worse like too much acid cause i never had it creeping up at night or gurgling in my throat you could actually even hear it, not just feel it. I tried the baking soda test before all of this and the result was i should not need any digestive assistance. I get hiccups a lot which one WAPF article indicates reflux. Sometimes as soon as i wake hiccups. Or after my morning water. So it can be when i am not eating, have not eaten for 14 hrs and i get hiccups from drinking water or raw milk. I burp after almost everything i eat now including raw foods. I used to never burp like that only after starting WAPF and taking more fats like CLO etc. Now it is everything including water. I have not gone to see a GP cause i figure they will blow it off say here too much acid take this when i think there is something else going on but do not know how to pursue it. What tests are available. How do they check for a hiatal hernia. Is there other things it could be? Does delayed gastric emptying cause this if so what causes that? I am not sure what direction to go. All advice is appreciated.
Guest guest
Lana, Thanks for the reply. I did not know that about the thyroid. Makes sense now. I suspect hypo as my temps have been low for a long time. Used to be waking 94ish when i first started NT now waking is about 96.- 97. Number is least likely although there are times i do over indulge LOL. Very rare. SO do you think the fact that raw foods seem to stay down better would affect the flap issue? Is the flap issue hiatal hernia or is that something entirely different? If it were food allergy it would be a lot of them then...... please not that one . Does anyone know if i go in how they would DX this. > > > I have heard this before but don't see how it's my thyroid as opposed to > > food when if i burp food could come back up, if i bend down it feels as > > though the food is going to be forced into my mouth etc. It is food, not a > > lump. > > > > Two reasons I suggested a possible thyroid issue - you reported burning in > your neck, that can be the thyroid leaking excess thyroid hormones due to > are a few things I suspect: 1) the flap is bad 2) you possibly have a > thyroid issue 3) your stomach may be trying to void a food you are allergic > to and 4) (far less likely) you could be eating entirely too much in a > single meal. > > -Lana > >
Guest guest
> > Hello Bee and everyone > > Recently I had been making excellent progress on the programme (3 years and counting) with new healing/detox symptoms appearing (and then disappearing again) every month. However the past 2 months I have developed acid reflux/GERD in my oesophagus, which isn't going away. I find this perplexing, since I have never had it before, and for the past 6 months had really been experiencing better digestion, as a consequence of taking HCl (between 4 and 8 tablets of 350mg each meal, depending on level of protein) and carefully chewing or sometimes even blending foods. +++Hi . You may not need HCl supplements any longer, so that may be causing your reflux/GERD. Bee
