Hi . Welcome, welcome. Glad to have you with us. If you know in your

heart that this is the best option for you, and your PCP doesn't support you in

your decision, then you will have to find one that does. Have you been to

www.obesityhelp.com? There are a lot of resources there in regards to finding

PCP's that support WLS and in finding a surgeon. You can read what others have

had to say about their experiences with the doctors. Good luck to you.

I'm not sure what an angel is. I guess that means I don't have one.

What are they? And by the way, Thanks for your input. It has made me

slightly nervous about the intubation over night.

Being intubated overnight is a practice for open heart patients but not

routinely for bypass patients.

Equate this breathing thru an endotracheal tube is like breathing thru a straw,

so to be comfortable for that you need to be sedated.

Most anesthesia folks want that tube out, even if you are in the icu.

Hi in San Diego! My name is Tina and I live on the west

coast of Florida. I had open RNY April 5th, 2002. I was intubated and

on the ventilator overnight after my surgery. They have you on really

nice drugs during this time, and I honestly don't remember much of

any time in ICU!! I was terrified, which is funny considering I have

worked with vent patients in ICU for years! I had an NG tube for 3

days. Is that the tube you were talking about? In the nose down to

the stomache? It is uncomfortable, but not terrible. Just remember

that none of these things is for forever. And much better than not

breathing or vomiting! I am praying for you to have a super recovery!

Hello group.

My name is Terri Sas. I live in Liverpool Texas. I am new to this

group. My doctor says it is medically necessary for me to have this

gastric bypass done due to all other efforts to lose weight has

failed. I have no insurance so therefore I am having to go through an

organization here in my town to try to help with the cost of the

procedure. I talked today with the lady from the company that is

trying to help me and it looks good so far. I have an appointment set

up with her on the 5th to fill out more paperwork and they need more

documents from my physicians on top of what they already have. I am

excited. It looks like everything is going to work out after all. :)

A little about myself... I am married and have 3 children. I am 34

years old and weigh 389 lbs. I have been overweight most of my life

and am tired of living like this. I am ready for a new beginning. I

have been trying to find support groups to join to learn more from

others about the things they went through and for guidance. I am

scared to death of this. I seen your group listed and seen how many

members are here and wanted to be part of your group. Thank you so

much for having me. I am sorry if I am rattling on. As you can tell I

am still really nervous and yet scared that they will turn me down at

the last minute. I must keep praying that God will see fit for me to

have a better life and be able for me to be around to see my children

grow up. I should have waited til I knew for sure if I was getting

this surgery before becoming a member, but I wanted to go on and get

on here and get to know everyone and keep thinking positive in hopes

it keeps going in the right direction it is going in now. I will

quit chattering now and let you all get on to the other posts. Thank

you again for letting me join your group.

Dear Terri S,

Welcome, welcome, welcome! I'm glad you found the GBIC website.

Ain't it the greatest site...? :)

I've never heard of organizations/companies helping out with this type

of surgery. That must be a special town you live in. Praise the Lord!

You'll be in my prayers for the decision making process and the fund

raisers, etc., Good luck and God bless your richly.

Dear Loverman,

Welcome to the GBIC mailing list! You've found a wonderful,

supportive, compassionate bunch of people here.

I want to commend you on researching WLS (Weight Loss Surgery) as a

way to take back control of your life. It's a tremendous decision but one I

don't think you'll ever regret.

I'm a Mom of four little girls and wife to a wonderful husband. We,

too, have prayed to " the Big Guy upstairs " and asked Him to guide our steps

during this journey. I don't think you can go wrong asking God to guide and

direct you.

Visit the home page of GBIC and read some of the articles on drinking

protein drinks, etc., vitamins and water. You can start doing those things

BEFORE your surgery and you'll feel better right away. Take care and God

bless you!

Love,

Trace

Hey, Chad - welcome to the group. We're always glad to have another man

around <G>. At 30 you should lose the extra weight really easily, and

will undoubtedly be a lot happier when it's gone. It'll just be a

matter of following the rules - You can gain the weight back with GB,

sorry to say, but if you do what the successful old-timers here say,

you'll find that you won't...

You're most welcome, Chad. (How did I miss your first name in my letter?

LOL)

Hey .. did you read ('s?) idea about having your protein drink mix in

plastic drink containers so all you have to do is fill them up with cold

water, shake and presto! Your protein drink is potable. :) Great idea!

Also, a cooler in your rig with your " legal " drinks -- Crystal Light, water,

etc., will help you with the sipping that we're supposed to do every day, all

day long. :)

God bless you, friend. We're glad you're here.
