Hi everyone. I am pretty much kind of stable. Overall my enegry and alertness

is better. I can usually walk the 3 mile walk a day. I did have a setback when

I overheated the other day. I was testing to see if I could handle the heat on

a walk. It was 94 degrees out and I felt warm but not overheated like I usually

do when we walked. Then all of a sudden around the 2.5 part my enegry dropped

and I got weak. I barely made it back to the car. I have been a bit weaker the

last couple of days but not too bad. I guess I still need a cooling vest.

Supposidly the heat uses up the histamine faster. The thing is my heat

tolerance was better as I didn't feel as hot, but I didn't have the overwhelming

feeling of feeling the heat intolerance like usual. So I was able to enjoy the

temp. On the downside I didn't realize I was overdoing the walk in the temps.

My body didn't warn me very much if it makes sense.

I put the information in the files. I had a phone consultation with a

Naturopath. I'm on day five, second day at full dose. I can tell a difference

but nothing miraculous has happened yet. I read that it is an accumulative

treatment and the doctor who prescribed it for me wants to do a follow-up next

month to check on the progress. I feel more confident to do the things that I

need to do.

Pleased that Prokarin is still working well for you.

I understand your body not telling you! It has been the same after CCSVI

treatment.

For years you get to know the fatigue signals then suddenly they aren't there.

You overdo it but don't know until it's too late.

My husband recognises them more than I do but I stubbornly keep going.

I have realised one easy signal for me - I get cold and nothing will warm me up

until I stop and rest.

The poor body is probably giving out signals but we haven't worked out how to

read them yet!

The link isn't transferable so I printed the page.

Histamine/ Caffeine Therapy in the Treatment of Multiple Sclerosis

A new method of treating MS has recently been publicised on the internet, which

suggests the possibility of actual recovery of the various disabilities

resulting from this disease.

This is the use of either transdermal (through the skin) or sublingual (under

the tongue) histamine treatment, followed by the transdermal application of

caffeine cream.

This theory was first considered in the 1930s and the actual treatment method

was first presented in the 1960s. At that time, due perhaps to a general lack of

communication, the method never became widely known, and interest eventually

diminished and the theory was lost from view.

The method was once more made known by Elaine Delack in 1998 when she presented

it as a commercial product, Procarin, using histamine cream and caffeine cream.

The histamine cream has the marked disadvantage that it is sensitive to both

light and heat and is destroyed if not refrigerated and kept in light-free

conditions. Procarin costs about £200-00 per month for treatment.

The content of this treatment has been widely publicised on the internet and the

formulation now offered is somewhat more convenient in being less sensitive to

light and heat.

The treatment involves three preparations: 3% sodium bicarbonate solution;

histamine solution, which contains histamine 1mg/ drop; caffeine cream, which

contains 100 mg caffeine/ ml. It is essential that the histamine should be

stored in a light-proof box in a refrigerator. The caffeine cream and the

bicarbonate solution should simply be stored in a cool place.

The histamine and bicarbonate solutions are provided in disposable plastic

dropper bottles. The present cost of this treatment is £14-00 plus £2-00

postage.

Prices for items purchased separately are: Histamine £7-50 plus 90p postage;

Caffeine cream £5-00 plus £1-00 postage; Bicarbonate solution £1-50 plus 90p

postage. For directions on how to produce the bicarbonate solution at home –

please see below.

Double strength (2 mg/ drop) or half-strength (0.5 mg/ drop) histamine is

available, for those who require an increased or a decreased dose. Prices are, 2

mg: £13-00 plus 90p postage; 0.5 mg: £4-50 plus 90p postage.

The transdermal treatment method:

sodium bicarbonate solution: two-three drops are first applied to a clean area

of skin and rubbed in until almost dry. Any accessible area of skin may be used:

upper arm, thigh, abdomen, back etc. It is preferable to avoid the forearm or

lower leg due to the superficial position of the veins, which may become

inflamed in response to repeated applications of the histamine.

to the same area one drop of histamine is applied and rubbed in until dry. At

this stage a weak histamine reaction may occur. There may be a slight stinging

sensation; the skin may become red and small raised swellings (wheals) may

occur. This reaction is temporary and the effects will diminish and disappear

within a few minutes.

To the same area apply a small, pea-sized portion (about 0.5 ml) of caffeine

cream and rub in until absorbed.

The sublingual treatment method:

one drop of the histamine solution is applied directly under the tongue. The

precise dose and frequency of application is then adjusted according to the

response gained.

The caffeine cream is then applied to an appropriate area of skin, as described

above.

Goodshape, who uses this mode of application with his wife, Polly, finds the

method more effective than the transdermal method of application. This

therefore, may be tried as an alternative. Obviously, in this circumstance, the

bicarbonate solution will not be required.

When you receive your treatment pack you should start with just one treatment

each day. This may be increased at weekly intervals until benefits are seen. If

improvement is seen at any stage, the treatment should be continued at that

dose.

To prevent deterioration due to the effects of light the histamine should be

applied in dim light and the treated area covered by clothing for about thirty

minutes immediately after.

Some of those attempting this method have found an increase in tiredness, muscle

spasm or pain. This appears to be due to an excess of the histamine. It is

therefore suggested that, if any adverse effects occur the dose should be

reduced to the previous symptom-free level..

Despite the apparent benefits of caffeine in this circumstance, any excess of

caffeine, from such as tea, coffee or cola- drinks, should be avoided. The

amount provided by the cream is a small, measured quantity. Any excess, due to

one or more cups of tea or coffee each day, may exceed the appropriate

therapeutic dose. It is therefore advised to continue taking decaffeinated

drinks as is routine.

If the caffeine cream is found to disturb sleep, the last dose of caffeine in

the evening should be avoided.

Improvement does not occur in every individual. Any improvements may take

several weeks to become apparent. In America, using the original Procarin,

surveys have suggested that approximately two-thirds of patients improve; about

20% remain the same, and about 12% get worse.

The most common side effect is initial drowsiness or an increase in tiredness.

Arthritic pain and occasionally, depression have also been reported. If these,

or other adverse symptoms, should become apparent, the dose of histamine should

be reduced as directed above.

The initial treatment will include the bicarbonate solution but, as this

solution may be readily and cheaply made from sodium bicarbonate (from the

kitchen cupboard) it may be considered more economic to make this at home.

The method of production is simple. Just add one small, slightly heaped,

teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate to 500 ml (half a litre) of water in a clean

bottle and shake to dissolve. Once prepared this may be kept fresh in the

`fridge and will be sufficient for many months of use. If desired a smaller

quantity may be prepared using the same proportions.

The strength of the solution is not critical so please do not be concerned if

the measure is not accurate. It is simply to make the skin slightly alkaline

before applying the histamine.

It must be emphasised that this method must be considered experimental and that

no beneficial response or improvement can be guaranteed.
