This is a very real concern with the under 1yo people...btw, corn syrup

is also like honey, containing the " spores " (or what ever,

spores?)...and it does seem prudent to avoid giving either of these to

the under 1yo people, imho....

I felt that way until a close friend of mine, a nurse, told me the horrors

she saw in babies taking honey and getting botulism. I know this person to

be non-alarmist and factual so that stopped me... wasn't worth the risk is

what I figured... there's so much other stuff that can be done...

Standard information passed from mother to mother for years in my family

is that NO honey is to be ingested by anyone under 2 years old. When my

children were young, I also got the same warning from the medical

profession. This is one warning I do believe and pass on. Yes,

botulism is the risk, because the young system is not ready to handle

the bacterias in honey. After 2, though, it is VERY beneficial.

I don't have a comment on the honey question. However, all the

symptoms you list, would be either yeast overgrowth at my house, or

food intolerance. Try adding biotin, see if that helps.

  • 2 years later...

My sister wrote that she heard on NPR ....

Hi,

I heard on NPR that New Zealand Manuka Honey has been FDA approved for treatment

of methicillin drug resistant staphaloccus aura (the staph that killed Bob)

I think it has been approved for topical skin infections.

do any of the people on your chat groups know anything about this?

I would like to know of any adverse reactions about it and where I might

purchase some if any of you know.

Thanks very much
