Subject: Diet choices

I'm trying to decide between Ann Boroch's candida diet and the Swank diet. I am

not on any meds and don't plan to be. Is there anyone out there that is

successful with either diet and no meds?

I did a half assed version of Ann Borch's diet for 6 months and had a clean MRI.

Then I slacked off on my diet (idiotically) so now I have 2 icky symptoms and

need to get serious about my diet forever.

I just can't decide which one is better. Swank seems easier, but does it really

work without meds?

Something that's 'easier' doesn't mean that it's better. ;) I've been on the BBD

for a few years now and it was the first of the many good decisions I made since

quitting the meds and my first Neuro who forced me on the meds.I found that

cutting out dairy and bread (and all the things which the diet requires of us to

be cut), straight away/all at once was my personal preference and was the best

way for me. I know others do it gradually and have success - I just know what

works best for me and I needed to be a bit gung-ho about it and do it all at

once.I looked into many diets which claimed to help but decided on the BBD as it

seemed to me to relate better to my body's needs and I figured that knowing MY

usual pattern of 'the way things pan out', the rockier road with the steepest

climb is what's required of me to reach my goal. ;)I found that cutting

everything out made a noticeable difference to my energy levels, mobility and

brain fog for me within days. Since having had the CCSVI procedure, everything

I get from the BBD has been multiplied 10 fold! I had the procedure in November

of last year and haven't had any restenosis. I think the BBD helps with that

quite a bit. I did a detox before starting the diet and still tend to stick to

raw foods for my evening meals. It all really helps me. I know there are quite a

few of us who've had success through the BBD - in particular I know that Janet

has had REALLY good success through it.

I started out on the Swank Diet when I was diagnosed 8 years ago, and then added

cutting out gluten and dairy too, maybe 4 years later, and I am doing ok. I can

tell if I've accidentally ingested gluten - as I get indigestion for 3 days, or

dairy - where a couple days later the back of my head gets all tingly. I've only

had one 'relapse' since 4 years ago... but I think it was more due to extreme

heat. Last summer, I think? It was very hot here in the northeast US, and the

bottoms of my feet went numb all summer. I still went to work though, it wasn't

bad enough to keep me home. I have my good and bad days like everyone else, but

I still drive, work full time, and walk unassisted. I'm 36. I also got rid of a

stressful job, and I think that was more helpful than even the food.

I have been on the Swank diet for 2 years, 3 months. It has stopped or greatly

reduced my PPMS progression. I am not on any CRABS drugs, but am still taking

Baclofen for morning stiffness releif.

Ann Boroch's diet does not conflict with the Swank diet. I easily integrated

Ann Boroch's protocols into the Swank diet. I added garlic and Ceyenne

supplements and cut out sugar and fruit for 30 days.

Other than improving constipation symptoms, I did not feel improvements that I

can credit to Ann Boroch's diet protocols. However, I recommend it. It is

good, smart health. I still take the garlic and ceyenne supplements for good

digestive health.

Wow! Stress can really hurt us, so don't unerestimate it's power to cripple our

immune systems. I think my layoff 2 years ago was a blessing in disguise. Just

after getting laid off, I started the Swank diet, got off CRABS and started

reading all I could on MS .

This combination has really helped me control my PPMS. I am still walking (with

crutches) and have faith and hope for a better future.
