AIIMS take steps to check crank calls to women AIDS counsellors

New Delhi, Feb 20 : Women counsellors at the AIDS helpline of the All

India Institute of Medical Sciences are up against crank callers who

ask obscene questions in the name of sex counselling and AIIMS is

taking steps to check them, Parliament was informed today.

Minister of State for Health Panabaka Lakshmi admitted in a written

reply that male crank callers tend to ask ''irrelevant and

objectionable questions.'' The AIDS Education and Training Cell of

AIIMS, which runs the helpline, has warned the crank callers that

police action be taken against them. It has also installed caller ID

phone so that their phone numbers could be noted, she informed.

After taking these action, number of obscene and crank calls have come

down significantly, she added.
