Guest guest
, We went through the same thing! My son Caleb got his DBB November 1st and we could not keep them on him. All the slipping caused terrible sores on his heals. Our local orthotics place really had his DBB all wrong. We went back to Iowa Monday and saw Dr. Ponseti, Dr. Deitz, and then with American Orthotics. They got Caleb straightend out. I would love to share with you all I can and see if anything will prevent you child from suffering! I will try and send you a personal e-mail with my number if you would like to call. I really know what you mean about feeling like a bad mam and all the crying! If he is having that much trouble I think it could be more than the usual getting use to the DBB! Especially if he is slipping out the shoes! Guest guest
, I'm so sorry, I know just how you feel. It does get better. I can't say that it is easy yet, but definitely better. My son, got his DBB 3 1/2 weeks ago. All I could think was give us the casts back! Yesterday while my five-year-old was playing on playland at Mc's my husband and I actually put 's DBB on. I would have never imagined when we first started that we would ever be able to put it on in a public place. (He was sleeping though and that did help.) My son wouldn't even attempt to kick for the first week, but our DBB wasn't set exactly right on the bar and they didn't put the plastazoid (sp) stuff in so I think it really hurt worse to kick. He never kicked his off (does the whole shoe come off?), but his toes did slip very often and he got sores on his heels (which I noticed when I took his shoes off this morning are heeling very nicely). Did they put the plastazoid stuff in the back of 's shoes? Are you buckling and tieing them very tightly? Have you turned the laces upside down so they tie at the toe? hardly slept the first several nights in his DBB, but last night he slept from 11pm til 6 am- -which he has never done before! What kind of socks are you using? Many here suggested the gap socks with the grippers on the bottom. That is what we are using now and it seems to help. We also have to put another pair of socks under those though because he has such little feet. How old is ? Do you know what size his shoes are? You're not a bad mom! You are a good mom, making sure he will be able to run and do all the things he wants to when he gets bigger. I bet in a few weeks you'll be helping somebody else out with a new DBB, when the DBB is working out for , and he becomes adjusted to it. Guest guest
, Also, we had to take back after one week because we just didn't feel like the bar was right (because his toes slipped no matter what we did and the tops of his feet had marks on them from the shoes being so tight ((to try to keep the toes from slipping)). One foot was set out too far and the other one not far enough so they adjusted that and added some plastazoid and padding to his shoes. So if you have tried everything and things still aren't working out be sure and call the Dr to take a look at the bar and his feet. Guest guest
, It is very difficult at first. I remember the crying (both of us) and feeling so bad for my sweet baby. It will get easier. After a few days they seem to get used to the shoes enough to tolerate them. Then it seems like just a regular thing. I held my daughter a lot at first. We did not have a problem with her kicking the shoes off. We did have a problem with sores though and had to have the shoes and bar adjusted. Good luck. Hang in there. and Anne (3-24-00) > My son DBB Experience > > hello everyone, My son got his DBB's yesterday > and it has been a nightmare he is so uncomfortable any > ideas he is miserable I try everything to make hime > smile and nothing all day yesterday when Dr. Colburn > put them on we cried and continued crying together all > day and today no difference we are still crying > together.
