Guest guest
Hello, A couple of weeks ago I felt that my blood sugar was getting low, so I tested it with my Prodigy meter and got a result of 68 mg/dl. I ate a few grapes and went on with what I was doing. A little later I developed all of the symptoms of dangerously low blood sugar that I had learned to recognize over the years, symptoms such as weakness, sweating, and light headedness. Again the Prodigy gave me a reading of 68 mg/dl. Based on many, many years of diabetes I knew that wasn't right, so I tested with my Accu-Check meter and got a reading of 34 mg/dl. Not wanting to die because of a faulty meter I threw that Prodigy meter away and bought a new one. Since then I have been doubling up on all of my tests, using both the Accu-Check and the new prodigy for each test. While doing these double tests for several days I found that the two meters agree closely as long as my sugar is either high or in the normal range, but that the Prodigy will never give me a reading below 68 mg/dl, even when my glucose goes lower than that. The two lowest readings that I have had were a 46 on the Accu-Check, with a corresponding 69 on the prodigy, and a 55 on the Accu-Check with a corresponding 71 on the prodigy. I put fresh batteries in the new prodigy, opened a fresh bottle of strips, checked that the code number setting on the Prodigy matched the code from the bottle of strips, and tested with a fresh bottle of test solution. The test results were OK, but the prodigy still will not ever give me a reading below 68. Has anyone else on the list ever had a problem like this? By the way, while I was on the phone buying the new prodigy meter I asked about the improved Prodigy, the one with increased vocalization, that is supposed to be on the market soon. the sales person said that the new meter will test blood pressure as well as glucose, will cost about $89, and is supposed to be available by the end of the year. I certainly wouldn't bet on it actually being available that soon, but i am at the top of the waiting list so they will call me as soon as the new meter arives. I will let the list know as soon as that happens. Mark
