Guest guest
Terry and All, If I ever make it to the t'ai chi, I'll let you know. Man, I am really starting at babysteps with this one. My husband and children are laughing at my one pound weights. My cousins son was over and laughing when he seen them setting by the computer, he asked if they were my 3 yr. old sons. Oh well, you have to start somewhere, right? With the swimming thing, I've heard people have put in pools for health reasons and the medical insurance paid for it. Me, I've never had the nerve to check, but I've heard when your muscles bother you that swimming is the best thing for them. But, just like alternative medicines, if they make you feel better and keep you healthier what is the difference if they are prescription or not? If they keep you healthier it is less your insurance has to pay for if you aren't healthy. I guess there are two ways of looking at it. On the picture thing you mentioned, I wonder if a big percentage of women go through this during menopause. I thought of this, because I was recently making copies of pictures on my scanner. I remember that is the only time my Mom put on weight was during her menopause years. She never gained weight when she was pregnant, she would come home in clothes that she wore before and they would hang on her. She was just getting over the menopause thing when I married and she was thin. Looking at my wedding pictures and how I was growing up, I never dreamed I would weigh what I do. Even if I am not losing alot now, I am proud that I've stayed away from the Easter chocolate, don't buy any snacks at all and if my husband does I am good at staying away. I eat a salad at every meal before I eat, plus we have one or two other veggies plus a fruit. My husband is calling me a nag, but both his parents are diabetic. He is the big one, goes nuts if there are no baked goods in the house. If I don't bake he goes to the store and buys! Oh well, just needed to talk to someone need to get back to checking school papers. Debbie

Guest guest
Deb, Hang in there! I do give you so very much credit. Right now it seems I can only deal with one big life change at a time...for me right now it is the smoking...or lack there of. Hopefully I will be feeling better and then get into some active exercise. For now I take my dog on short walks a couple 3 times a day. Send me the url for this lady on the web though would you? Guest guest
That is the trouble with " diets " , you lose weight but once you return to your old habits you gain more than you lost. The reason: your body gets used to surviving on less so when you increase the calories again your body stores them as fat!! You must find a plan that works for you and one you live with FOREVER! I don't know much about the Atkins diet but I have heard you eliminate food groups entirely for awhile. I don't think that sounds too healthy (JMO). I gained before Graves diagnosis and after PTU gained a lot more. I couldn't lose it till I found the program I use now, Somersizing (www.somersize.com). I lost 40+ lbs in 6 mths and have kept it off for 3 years! I fluctuate a little when I do the level 2 (allows to add some foods back, I love chocolate and some different combinations of foods), but just go back to level 1 and the lbs. melt off. Basically the plan is that you eat protein/fats separate from carb/starch meals and eat fruit alone, plus eat whole grains and real foods. This is so your body digests them properly! Also, stay away from chemicals! Also, you eat until you're full! Simple as that! This is something that works for me and I know about a dozen other people who do this and it's worked for all of them! Just something for you to consider! Good luck Janis > I gained weight before being diagnosed, and after--I was always starving > before, and as I stabilized, my metabolism slowed. Guest guest
Somersizing (www.somersize.com). I lost 40+ lbs in 6 mths and > have kept it off for 3 years! I'm thin, but my daughter is heavy, so i am interested in the url. It didn't work and said something about a new address. Do you have it? thanks
Guest guest
It should have automatically taken you to the updated page but if not, try this: http://www.suzannesomers.com/Home/ I just wantd to add, since starting this I haven't had any digestion problems any more either! By separating some of the food groups your stomach doesn't have the conflict in digestion with acid and base during digestion! That's an added bonus I think! > Somersizing (www.somersize.com). Guest guest
The diet sounds like The Fit For Life one...it is an old book but can still be bought at amazon.com. A friend of mine has been doing it for about 9 months and lost 80 pounds. She weighed well over 300 pounds before starting and still has another 75 to go but in all her years of weight struggle she says this is the easiest, makes the most sense and works the best that she has ever been on....she does not have GD. Take care, Jody _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
Guest guest
Thanks Janis, Have you ever read anything about ayurvedic cooking? They have the same approach, but very complex! Ayurveda is the ancient system of healthcare of India, of which yoga is a part. I have a lot of respect for it. Thanks, > > Somersizing (www.somersize.com). Guest guest
, I've never heard of the Ayurveda before. I do know that yoga is supposed to be great. My daughter who studies health (she's a phys.ed. teacher and studying exercise physiology still for her grad. degree) said that yoga is supposed to be good for thyroid! I just might have to look into that a bit! Jan > Thanks Janis, > Have you ever read anything about ayurvedic cooking? They have the > same approach, but very complex! Guest guest
Janis, I just started doing yoga last month and I love it! It actually lowers my blood pressure and pulse! It forces me to concentrate on breathing properly and I think that helps a lot. I highly recommend it (at least my beginners tape!!) Guest guest
Debbie, It's Yoga AM and PM - it's a 2 tape package. 15 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes at night. Got it at Wal Mart for $14.95. If you get it let me know how you like it. I find it very relaxing...but I don't push myself to do more stretching than is comfortable!! Guest guest
Doris, Thanks, I will let you know. Don't know how soon I will get one, I know it won't be this weekend. Wal-Mart is my favorite store! Debbie
Guest guest
> Doris, > > What is the name of the beginners tape for yoga that you have? > > Debbie I know Doris is happy with the tape she is using. It is very good. May I also recommend Yoga For Beginners with Walden? You can order it at the Living Arts catalogue phone at 1800-2-living. This is the first tape in the set I mentioned earlier. and Rodney Yee have a fabulous package for about $80.00 as I recall. But you can buy the tape alone, if you wish, of course. I've tried a few teachers on tape and this stands head and shoulders above anything else I've found. I have also noticed their tapes at Longs Drugs, if you have those where you are. Guest guest
Thanks , I will check them both out. No Longs Drugs here. We did Yoga on our first cruise for Ship Shape dollars, our honeymoon. It was interesting.
