I think the reason she felt no support is because she was so distant...this is a group of FRIENDS, in my view...in fact that is what I love about this list; you can say what you feel, you don't debate all the intellectual garbage, you can waste space being silly (and get the feeling that you may have brightened up someone's day). And, I think the " girly-girly " stuff is the best support there is...last thing I need is one more round of the latest studies on guts and brains. The thing most parents of kids with autism miss out on is the chance to feel " normal " ...that's what you get here. Raena

Guest guest
Did she even READ the description for this list? Doesn't sound like it to me! This is NOT the site for technical stuff 24/7. This is about living insane lives and trying to keep our own shreds of sanity. Yes, aparently we were not well suited! LOL

That's what happened to me. This list is exactly what I was looking for. I had no friends, a sick husband and a family in denial. I was doing everything for everyone. I had to information and no idea where to go. If it hadn't been for you girls I just wouldn't have been able to go on. I really honestly mean that. Each and every one of you has in some way touched my life and someone given me the strength to go on and keep helping my daughter. I love you all! To create a parenting group just like the NTs get -- without all the yak about therapies and treatments and causes and cures and studies and research and the latest findings...all that stuff is welcome in a personal experience context, but all I wanted was a place to be parents FIRST -- a spectrum parents second. Thanks for writing that -- it helps me to know that it's still working. :-) Jacquie
Guest guest
> > Yup. I wrote her back and just suggested helpfully that she sub > to the St 's list.>> You know, that might be a good list for her...maybe she's just not at a place where she can relax and say, " This is my life " . I know I spent a three or four years cramming my brain with everything I could find on sensory integration, dyspraxia, speech, diets, autism, and so on...the knowledge made me feel a sense of control in all the craziness. Finally, I just got saturated; I would go to those lists and I couldn't read it anymore. I wasn't finding the " support " I needed anymore, even though they'd been a lifeline to me before. I got tired of listening to people ripping into each other over therapies...I got tired of reading notes from supermoms who were gonna cure their kids and looked down on folks who weren't willing to try EVERYTHING...I got tired of the whole autism/therapy community. But I still needed some form of emotional outlet. I tried joining some craft lists (still on a couple), and that didn't do it, because I couldn't relate to their lives real well...I realized that I needed to communicate with people who understood my life...but I was tired of always *working* at being a parent of a child with a disability. Could be that a time will come when she just needs to chat...she might be back, ready to join in? Raena
Guest guest
<chuckle> Thanks Jacquie...I needed the laugh. She obviously wasn't looking for support. Wow, how intellectually stimulated did she expect it to get when she had her head up her ___to start with? Not to mention, we're a parent support group, not a college lecture forum!
