Hehehehehe. My hubby is into shooting and when he moved down here from

Canada, he introduced me to the sport (I was not to terribly happy to have

a gun in the house at first, but I discovered that plinking cans is good

stress relief). I also discovered I am a natural shot. We went to a

practical pistol shoot and there was a guy there all decked out like a

cowboy. He was into cowboy action shooting. A couple years later I had a

chance to try out a wheel gun (6 shooter) and loved it. Semi-auto is nice,

but there is something ancestral about 6 guns (long family history in the

old west). So we found out where the closest group was, showed up with

only one pistol and found out how much fun it was to dress up in

cowboy/girl clothes and shoot targets. The people in it are nice, in fact

I was paired with a couple who loaned me a rifle, shotgun and let me use

their ammo. I was loaned my 2nd pistol by a 12 year old kid who had an

extra. I was so sore by the end of the match (6 stages and I shot both

pistols, the rifle and shotgun in each one) and had a hellacious bruise

from the shotgun (have I mentioned I had NEVER fired a shotgun before,

hehehehe) and a grin that didn't go away for a week. I now belong to the

Single Action Shooting Society under the name Jane Cotton (we take on

personaes), hubby is hooked on it too so it is a family hobby. We've been

spending lots of money on equipment (not the cheapest sport to get into,

but with doing our own reloading it gets cheaper after a while) and now

that we have a decent sewing machine I can start getting more costumes

together (I also love to play dress up so this is really a great sport to

get into).

I'm not the fastest shot in the world, but I'm in it for the fun not the

competition (tho a little competition is fun, but I am mostly competing

against myself so I can get much better). It also gets me and hubby out of

the house more often (when the weather is nice we can go to the range to

practice) and when the weather gets nicer we are looking at traveling to

other towns in the area with monthly shoots. And it is a good stress

reliever and you'd be amazed how much exercise you get.

I have a couple pics of me in action on my webpage, tho I really need to

update that as I actually have pics of me from the front LOL (hubby for

some reason didn't want to stand in front of me when I shot. Don't know

why? LOL).

My dad used to hunt when he was younger, but gave it up when he found tere

were too many idiots out there. Growing up a Navy brat I just wasn't

exposed to them as a kid (dad didn't hunt, so we never had a gun). I

played with cap pistols a lot, but as an adult I never thought of even

getting a real pistol. I do collect sharp pointy toys (hubby gave me a

katana for one of our anniversaries) so am used to having grownup " toys "

around. We started off with a .22 pistol and that wasn't so bad. Hubby

got himself a 9mm semi-auto and I loved it. I'm shooting .38/.357 in

pistol and rifle and I shoot 12 guage shotgun. We are looking for one for

me. While I do use the winchester 97, it is not my style (pump action)

and wasnt a good old fashioned mule eared side by side. Unfortunately they

seem to be antiques and the dealers know it. Sigh! I can get one new, but

the mule ears are for decoration now, now cocking. Until then I'll just keep

borrowing a friends.

We are going to be teaching a friends kid to shoot. We have a .22 6 gun

and a lever action rifle to start him on.

I hear you one the fitting hands. Both hubby and I have small hands so we

have to shop around for a pistol. Luckily the 2 Rugers we have fit

perfectly. They do make them with smaller grips, but i haven't tried one

yet.

6 pointer? Cool. I've seriously considered going out and bagging a deer or

an elk (esp when I just get back from grocery shopping). But I probably

should try it first to make sure I even like it. I hate the thought of killing

a critter and then wasting the meat (tho I've got lots of friends who like

wild game, so I guess it wouldn't go to waste). I'll have to remember about

the fat and make sure I trim it when i do get some to try. In the

meantime, we keep the freezer well stocked with trout (MMMMMMM rainbow

trout (insert imitation of Homer Simpson here LOL).

I've got links to SASS on my cowboy action page so have fun checking it

out (even more fun is to hang out on the discussion boards at sassnet.com)

I am also intrigued. My husband also introduced me to shooting, growing up

in a family where my father had no guns, at first I was scared having them

around. Our children have been taught gun safety from day one. We had a

six shooter, but sold it 18 months ago, it never fit our hand good. My

husband bought it before I met him because of the holster. I also was a

born natural shot. We had a 28 guage but sold that too, someone offered us

a good price, they don't have much of a kick back so no bruising. We like

plinking cans. Bought the girls BB guns a year ago for christmas and just

bought a semi automatic pellet gun with a laser. We have 2-.22 rifles one

semi automatic and a .22 magnum rifle. The pellet gun is to teach the girls

pistol shooting. Before the baby was born I kept a shot gun in the bathroom

for intruders, had shells lined on the shelf. My husband calls me Annie

Oakley. I love vension, lean, and if butchered the right way has no wild

taste. The wild taste is in the fat, so the thing is you need to cut all

the fat off. I don't like to tell people but I do hunt, some don't think it

is cool. The first time I went I got a 6 point buck, my brothers were

jealous.

I will check out your sight and pictures, the Single Action Shooting Society

sounds interesting.
