Guest guest
Which of these two statements is true? 1) When a new lesion is formed, it is active for 3-4 weeks and then becomes a dead lesion. It will appear on all future MRIs as a dead lesion. It is UNUSUAL for a dead lesion to HEAL (and vanish on the MRI). This would indicate the body is healing. 2) When a new lesion is formed, it is active for 3-4 weeks. It is COMMON for the lesions to HEAL (disappear). If a person has an MRI every 12 months (and the MRIs show no change), then it is quite possible to have had numerous lesions during the 12 months, but they all disappeared. Here's why I ask. Since my diagnosis I thought #1 was true. My MRI history is: Nov 08 - 2 Dec 09 - 1 June 10 - NONE. The one from 12/09 had HEALED July 11 - 1 My neurologist was surprised that my previous lesion had healed (especially since I wasn't taking any DMDs), and I thought my approach (dietary and lifestyle) was working. And this past July I was surprised to see the new lesion. My doctor was really concerned and was pushing the DMDs even more. I recently went to see another neurologist to get a second opinion, and he explained that #2 above is true. He wasn't really surprised or concerned about the new lesion. So which is true (#1 or #2)? I have a moderate lesion load, and I'm also hoping to find out if any of my other lesions have healed (or other new ones formed). No success with this so far. -- The will of God will never place you where the grace of God can't help you. -- unknown
