Hi All,

My son Bart is 10 and has autism and probable mito (pyruvate

dehydrogenase). The Dr. is afraid to put him on any medication for this or

anything. Has any of your children been put on medication for

obsessive/compulsive behavior. Or in the autism world we call it

perseverations. Did it work? Was there side effects?

He is driving me crazy. When he comes upstairs he first turn on all of the

lights in every room and outside. We have some bright spot lights in the

kithcen and outside. Then he wants the porch door open and the air

conditioning is on. All heater thermostats are set to 60 degrees. He turn

on a fan over our bed and stick his hand in it. We have bright spots in

there. Then he wants the sheets off the corners. The toilet seat must be

down and the bathroom and bedroon doors have to be shut. But the doors

inside the rooms have to be open. Also he is dumping everything. Even my

laundry is not safe in the basket. To eat anything he must have a fork and a

spoon but he doesn't use it. NOw he insists on the door from the family room

to the garage to be open. Well, this is not a safe place to play, especially

as he puts anything in his mouth. Boy, do I need a break from him.

Thanks for leting me vent. Gotta go deal with his behaviors. Hopefully my

husband is watching him. He ran out of the house in his bare feet and I

asked him where he was going. " hersheypark " was his answer.

kATHY: My son takes amitripyline to help suppress migraines (one of his mito

sympotms) which also helps

suppress compulsive behaviors. I think you need to have his heart checked out

first. The amount may need

to be found on trial and error.
