There is no " United Nations International Health Organization " There is a UN World Health Organization and here is its report for 2010 but it contains none of these statistics. http://www.who.int/whosis/whostat/EN_WHS10_Full.pdf Also, Investor's Business Daily did not print this article originally. IMO, the US health system is the most expensive and wasteful system on the planet and while I disagree that a government takeover is required to fix it, I wish that somehow we can stop this treadmill that is ruining our health and placing care out of reach for more and more people. Tom Nesler Fw: I thought you would find this interesting! To: this is relevant to anyone interested in healthcare............ < There are actually two messages here. The first is very interesting, but the second is absolutely astounding - and explains a lot. A recent " Investor's Business Daily " article provided very interesting statistics from a survey by the United Nations International Health Organization. Percentage of men and women who survived a cancer five years after diagnosis: U.S. 65% England 46% Canada 42% Percentage of patients diagnosed with diabetes who received treatment within six months: U.S. 93% England 15% Canada 43% Percentage of seniors needing hip replacement who received it within six months: U.S. 90% England 15% Canada 43% Percentage referred to a medical specialist who see one within one month: U.S. 77% England 40% Canada 43% Number of MRI scanners (a prime diagnostic tool) per million people: U.S. 71 England 14 Canada 18 Percentage of seniors (65+), with low income, who say they are in " excellent health " : U.S. 12% England 2% Canada 6% And now for the last statistic: National Health Insurance? U.S. NO England YES Canada YES LAST BUT NOT LEAST ...!! The percentage of each past president's cabinet who had worked in the private business sector prior to their appoint- ment to the cabinet. These are people who know what a job is and how to run a corporation for profit ... T. Roosevelt.................... 38% Taft.................................. 40% ........................... 52% Harding........................... 49% Coolidge......................... 48% Hoover............................ 42% F. That's right! Only eight percent---the least, by far, of the last 19 presidents! And these people are trying to tell our big corporations how to run their business? How can the president of a major nation and society, the one with the most successful economic system in world history, stand and talk about business when he's never worked for one? Or about jobs when he has ever had one and it's the same for 92% of his senior staff and closest advisers? I tried to look up the original article that is mentioned from Investor's Business Daily - but the article does not exist, I couldn't even find anything that even vaguely resembled this information. I also tried to locate the " United Nations International Health Organization " to find the original survey which Fw: I thought you would find this interesting! Guest guest
    I did a quick google on the name- no organization with this name came up on the first page. I didn't check further. One of the first google hits was a screen from snopes.com. They seem to have changed their format (again, I didn't check extensively enough to be sure of this); they no longer say whether something is true or not, but they collect posts from people with opinions. The first page of opinions seem to be calling this survey and organization " false " .     At the least, these statistics are extensively cherry-picked. There are many health statistics in which the US rates poorly compared to other industrialized nations (with national health care). Infant mortality comes to mind quickly.     As always, it's wise to check the source of one's facts, *especially* when they confirm biases you already hold. We should all, including me, do more of that.  Ann " Evil cannot overcome evil, and the end does not justify the means... when we undertake to overcome evil with evil, we ourselves tend to become the evil that we seek to overcome. Guest guest
A little research on the web indicates that this forwarded email has been " making the rounds " for a couple of years now. The earliest reference I have found to this list of so-called statistics is dated April 1. April 1 is April Fool's Day. So, is the data factual? Or was it intended as a joke? Guest guest
There is so much misinformation about the healthcare law. The politicians didn't read it before it passed and now people who haven't read it are making all sorts of claims, true or not. I do not believe anyone should make statements about it UNLESS THEY HAVE READ IT.
