My reply is to urge CAUTION on your part about agreeing to a hysterectomy on the basis of one doctor's assessment and recommendation. This is the voice of experience speaking: Get at least one totally independent opinion from another physician. The after effects of hysterectomy are not as benign as some doctors would have you believe. Finally, this information is being shared publicly by its " victims. " I do know that there are some conditions related to thyroid disease that can lead to diagnostic mistakes. For instance, in my case there was much thick tissue in the uterus. Heavy periods can be caused by hypothyroidism. At age thirty, I had a totally unnecessary hysterectomy due to misdiagnosis. I am not all that unusual in the United States of America.
