Guest guest
I assume you're talking about 4 amino-pyridine or 4AP. It has been around for years, a potassium channel blocker that seems to allow nerve message to get through despite damaged myelin. Ampyra was developed from it. I took 4AP for years and it did help with alertness, energy and muscle strength. It doesn't last very long in the body and too much can cause seizures, so never take extra. If you can't remember for sure whether you took it, wait. I stopped it after my second CCSVI procedure. I just don't need it anymore. I don't do the big pharma dmds, but this is not big pharma, has been around for many years and just offers some symptom relief without long term negatives like destroying your liver. I needed every bit of energy to be able to research CCSVI, diet, etc. So I think if it helps for a while, use it, but it isn't the answer, it just helps. > > > > Actually, Janet, I let this Rebif conversation go through because I was > > hoping members would offer suggestions for managing ms without the drugs. > > > > > > Yvette > > >
Guest guest
I have been taking Ampyra for a year now and it has been a wonder for me. I was in a wheelchair for 4.5 years and now I am walking all over the place. At first I could not walk but just around the house, but then I got to walking futher and futher. And I started walking in about a week after taking the drug. Taking steps. I still can not walk around a large store, like Krogers, Target, someplace like that, If I am going to look alot. My legs get woobley and heavy. And after a day out of going somewhere like shopping or an event I am so wore out if I am doing alot of walking. I usually come home and have to go to sleep. But it is all worth it to me just to walk again. My Dad died just this past month. This was somthing that put me back in my wheelchair. The devistation from that was to much on me and my body could not take the stress. So I was back in the wheelchair but only for a short time, thank goodness. I am back to walking again. It is a wonderful drug, but it is not fool proof. This is my experieace, others may have differnt.
