Guest guest
Hi Hunter, I'm still a newbie at intuitive eating...and I think it's only human to be tempted by some of those ads, particularly when you are still starting out and the whole IE process is just being solidified. Perhaps it's a good exercise and a reminder to go through this and realize that IE is the right path... I'm personally not tempted by any diet in particular, but the idea of the quick fix still does get me sometimes and the controlling nature of the diets, when I think things are not going my way with intuitive eating or I feel out of control with food again. I was off and on WW and diets for about 15 years now, and now that I'm free of points counting, you couldn't pay me to go back to counting. I feel like I wasted so many years being preoccupied in my mind with diets...That and oh, the awful fat free food phase I went through in my teens - you couldn't pay me to eat that FF cheese or dressing again. I know you are going to do great - Take care! > > This time of year, we are bombarded with weight loss ads, try weight > watchers- it isn't a diet (yeah right!), have you called yet? > Everywhere I look there is info on food and diets, calorie restriction > and exercise. Guest guest
I think it's very easy to get sucked in by the diet mania this time of year. The pressure is everywhere; it's part of our social nature to 'join in' ; and most of us are so saturated with all the goodies and overeating this time of year many people they are looking forward to a little less food and sugar. It can be very difficult to resist! but the more you learn - the more you can see through the whole thing - the easier it will be. hang in there > > This time of year, we are bombarded with weight loss ads, try weight > watchers- it isn't a diet (yeah right!), have you called yet? > Everywhere I look there is info on food and diets, calorie restriction > and exercise. Guest guest
I noticed that even the Food Network, which usually doesn't do a darn thing to help people watch their wastlines, is starting a week (or maybe it's for the month) of more healthful cooking. I guess that is my new years resolution, to keep eating inutitively, keep working on eating only when hungry and working on recognizing my satisfaction levels (this is still a tough one for me) and while not restricting, but just eating and cooking a bit more healthfully but still tastefully and not just eating anything and everything. There has to be a balance and my goal is to find that balance of not restricting but watching what I eat a bit more closely and just be more healthful. --Alana -------------- Original message -------------- This time of year, we are bombarded with weight loss ads, try weight watchers- it isn't a diet (yeah right!), have you called yet? Guest guest
Diet Mentality is a DEMON in my mind. First order of dragon slaying is to be able to recognize the beast, get to know it and then to fight it in ways that #1 protect YOU and #2 injure the beastie as much as possible. For me that means just saying PHOOEY to any and all 'diet' input - Yur no gonna FAT me!! And back the FAT OFF!! is what I silently say to such intrusions into my well being. :) LOL LOL If we don't believe in fairies, we don't have to clap to keep them alive (sorry Tinkerbell). Guest guest
Hi. Let me help you if I can. (Boy it takes courage to share this). I have been on WW for the past seven months. Probably my fifth time joining in my lifetime. I quit right before Christmas. Here is what I lost and gained. Lost $320 Lost 2.2 pounds (that comes to roughly $160 per pound) Gained Wisdom. I am not blaming WW in any shape or form for my lack of progress. I do not stick to diets and I know why. Overeating is how I cared for myself. I love myself but I have an unhealthy way of showing it. That is the bottom line. And no diet that deprives me of my one true comfort will ever work. So, when WW tells me to stop at x number of points and I need comfort, And food is the only way I know to take care of myself, what do you think I do? My NYR this year is no dieting. For one full year. I have three guidebooks this year. Intuitive Eating, 7 secrets of slim people, and How to survive your diet. Just as an experiment, I want to see what happens when I listen to my body. And, if I have success, I can think of many ways to spend that $320 on positive ways to enforce my new life. Don't go there. Hold my hand if you need to. : ) Marie AMEN! Everytime I see that stupid > Weight Watcher's ad I SCREAM at the > TV! " Diets don't work - Weight > Watchers Does " ??? Guest guest
I agree completely! I am the author of a non-dieting book, and after seeing a WW ad over the holidays I couldn't stop talking about it. WW IS A DIET, and yet their commercials say " Diets don't work. " Go figure! Guest guest
Y'know what makes me mad is that when I am sitting watching TV with my daughters who are 10 and 12 years old and I have made such an effort to not make body size an issue with them- and on comes 4 or 5 commercials within about an hour saying to try slimfast, weight watchers, etc. > > This time of year, we are bombarded with weight loss ads, try weight > watchers- it isn't a diet (yeah right!), have you called yet? > Everywhere I look there is info on food and diets, calorie restriction > and exercise. Guest guest
Maybe we all just need to boycot our TV's especially if one can't turn off the pull into the diet mentality~! --Alana -------------- Original message -------------- Y'know what makes me mad is that when I am sitting watching TV with my daughters who are 10 and 12 years old and I have made such an effort to not make body size an issue with them- and on comes 4 or 5 commercials within about an hour saying to try slimfast, weight watchers, etc.>> This time of year, we are bombarded with weight loss ads, try weight > watchers- it isn't a diet (yeah right!), have you called yet? > Everywhere I look there is info on food and diets, calorie restriction > and exercise. Guest guest
From: begemans begemans@... > I am sitting watching TV with my daughters who are > 10 and 12 years old and [...] on comes 4 or 5 > commercials within about an hour saying to try slimfast, > weight watchers, etc. That is definitely irritating. But I suppose it's a good opportunity to spark some discussion with the girls. Hit the mute button & see what they have to say about it. Maybe they find it as irritating as you do -- That would probably make you feel great, that they really " get " what you've been telling them. Also, without the sound playing, many commercials become rather comical. Of course, my favorite way to handle most commercials is via our DVR -- and the fast-forward button! Yes, I will deliberately wait until the hour AFTER a show runs to watch it, so that I can skip the commercials, and of course it takes less than an hour to watch that way. -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://link.mail2web.com/mail2web

Guest guest
Simply explain to your daughters that 'All the birds can fly in the WRONG direction.' Its like the 'If all of your friends jumped off a cliff, would you too?' Each person has to make the best decisions they can for themselves. And if dieting is so wonderful, why isn't the world filled with willowy women? Raspberry on those commercials!! > > Y'know what makes me mad is that when I am sitting watching TV with > my daughters who are 10 and 12 years old and I have made such an > effort to not make body size an issue with them- and on comes 4 or 5 > commercials within about an hour saying to try slimfast, weight > watchers, etc.
