-- Doctor's visit today!

Well, today I went to the doctor and I was so afraid that I would bebombarded by the scale and little ads to lose weight and this andthat. I don't know, the doctor just seems like a scary place when itcomes to my weight.I got weighed, I didn't look at the scale but I snuck a peak at whatshe wrote down. I couldn't tell if it was a 7 or a 4 at the end and Itold myself I'm better off not knowing. Besides, I was fully clothedand retaining water as it's that time of the month so that numberisn't reliable even if it meant something. As I was waiting in the room for the doctor to come in, I stared atall of the ads for how to incorporate exercise into your routine anddared myself to read the "How to eat healthy" flier. I was actuallypretty shocked. What is the first thing a diet will tell you to do? Stop eating thethings you like. Start counting calories. One slip up and you'redone for. This was SO the opposite! This was SO IE!!It had maybe 10 things for you to do to get on a healthier path foreating, whether it be to maintain or lose weight. They said "Stopcounting calories," "Eat slower and enjoy your meal so you can giveyour body time to recognize when you're full," "Don't cut out thethings you like, nothing is worse than forcing yourself to eat ricecakes when you can't stand them," and "If you slip up, it's alright. One or two days is not going to do anything, just recognize that youoverate and move on." Nowhere did it say that if you eat chocolatecake you're going to gain 10 pounds, even if it was just a bite. There was nothing saying that if you overate one day, you needed toundereat the next and overcompensate with extra exercise. Everythingwas more about making food a pleasurable experience and listening moreto your body than outside sources.I have to say, I was pretty happy to see that flier today!

Now that is a pleasant and GOOD surprise to find!! I was at our

dentist and all the magazines had way too much 'diet' stuff. I just

turn to the next page and don't even look at any of this as its

usually phooey!
