My name is and I live with my 10 year old daughter in the Nashville TN area. I was diagnosed with Diabetes about a month ago and my brother in Atlanta was diagnosed 2 months ago, isn't that weird. I have a 2 day seminar if that is what you would call it, at our local hospital run by nurses and dieticians. Eating is a HUGE problem for me. I need to change my diet which means my daighters diet changes also. I also want to start a walking program Anyhow I hope to go back to college in the Fall and work towards a respitory therapy program. Well that is all about me in a nutshell, thanks for reading. Guest guest
Welcome to the group . I wish you all the best in controlling this disease and in your college studies. Eating is a huge problem for me also. Learn what you can from the seminar. I think you'll find this group fun, educational and inspirational. I just arrived home in Seattle Sunday night from Nashville. I go once a year to a Cherokee Indian gathering in Monteagle (about 88 miles East/SE of Nashville). Most of my Cherokee brothers and sisters at this get-together also have diabetes. Again, welcome to the group! Thanks for the warm welcome from everyone. It has been exactly one month today since I was diagnosed. (don't get me wrong I am not trivalizing diabetes at all) It seems at first it was a new and exciting event. Haveing to check my level, choosing the right foods and walking now it just seems to be a total pain the patookas. It's like I have a " I just don't care " attitude. I still take my pill and check my levels but my heart isn't into it. Maybe when I go see the nurses and nutrionists on the 13th and 14th it was seem so gloomy. Thanks for listening Welcome to the group . I wish you all the best in controlling this disease and in your college studies.
Guest guest
I think most of us get into a bad cycle of not having any energy until afternoon and the more I move at night, the less apt I am to fall asleep. I was talking to a gal about this last night at my Weight Watchers meeting. She said she can't walk after 8:00 p.m. or she won't fall asleep. I thought I was the only one. Dr. Teitelbaum has a great book out called From Fatigued to Fantastic. It talks about diet, herbal and prescription medications. He pushes his own sleep formula as the first formula to try -it's herbal and personally was not strong enough for me. But he admits that most people with fibro need something stronger and he suggests you add on several medications in a certain order (and combine them) until you are getting 8 to 9 hours of sleep per night. I would highly recommend the book as someplace to start with the sleep issue and then you can take it to your dr and make sure the recommendations are okay to try. I think Benadryl or Unisom are recommended to try after his formula and then if that doesn't work you add on from there. Have you tried Lunesta? What about Elavil?
