Dear Colleagues, The Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) pandemic is on the rise and more than 20 million people have died of AIDS and about 14,000 are newly infected every day. Consistent variation in pathogenic characteristics and host responses influence the transmission, pathogenesis, disease progression, treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS. Besides these biological factors stigma due to various socio- economical and behavioral issues also influence control of HIV/AIDS. Globally efforts are being made to control AIDS pandemic including various experimental, clinical and animal models to understand host/pathogen genotypic and phenotypic variations and their association in designing strategies for treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS. The International Conference on " Fundamental and Translational Research on HIV/AIDS: Global Perspectives " , aims to provide new insights into HIV transmission, disease development and progression, prevention, therapeutics and use of animal model. This will help translate theoretic advances into clinical practices for prevention and treatment of HIV/ AIDS. The conference will address the most recent advances in understanding basic, clinical and socio behavioral issues and their implications in prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS. The basic sciences track will focus on experimental and animal studies to understand the virology, immunology, transmission of HIV and preclinical testing of anti HIV drugs and vaccines. The clinical sciences track will cover the spectrum of drug therapy and its implications in disease control, strategies and advanced approaches for clinical trials of microbicides and AIDS vaccine. While socio behavioral track will address issues pertaining to prevention, access to care and support and existing programmes to combat HIV/AIDS.
