That's a toughie. Maybe it would prevent some shady factory farmers

from injecting the cows with stuff and passing that on to us.

If I make sense.

Then again, I like my red meat. Shoot I'd eat Bambi's mother....LOL!

Holy Cow! It's a Clone!

I don't know about you guys, but this idea of cloned meat is kindafreaking me out. I know, the meat is from the offspring of clonedanimals, but it just seems so BIZARRE to me, and Star Trek-ish. Oh,and gross.Any thoughts?

I was reading an article at work on the cloning if meat and made the comment about it to my co-worker and his response was "well, you're already eating cloned vegetables". I don't know, are vegetables cloned? I just thought they were hybrids. Any thoughts?

OK, I need a clarification - cloned as in duplicate (entire) living

creature or tissue grown in a lab? If a 'cloned' animal is born and

raised just like its original genetic 'parent', then what's the fuss?

Like it is just another animal of that species which ate and matured

to a 'marketable' product. (Gruesome as the sounds, its true. Meat

doesn't 'grow' in little trays with plastic covers) But if there is a

process by which meat tissue is being 'grown' in a lab - now that is

quite Sci-fi! But when I think about it, such a protein product would

not have to suffer slaughter etc. Next step algae and fungus vats for

food production?!? No thanks, I do like the taste and texture of

something that has walked and chewed growing plants. Just seems more

natural 'food chain' that way. (and I definitely prefer a steak over

tofu any day)

I think it's a bit of both: a cloned embryo (made in a lab) is

implanted in a female (in this case, a cow) and brought to term in the

usual way.

I guess what freaks me out is that many clones have to be born and

destroyed before they come up with a healthy one, and there have been

no long-term studies as to how cloning affects the health of the

cloned animal, or anyone who eats it.

Just my two cents.

I think I may have read that cloned animals (such as Dolly the Sheep) have shorter life spans than the original animal. That seems a little off-putting to me! Enough to not want to eat a cloned animal yet...
